Regardless what you think my motives were RedHand, i did not slag off the Hawkeye, I want the leads to do the pin outs etc, i also want the upgrades but despite constantly hearing that they are downloadable have no URL.
I quoted only what i know from experience during which i made enery8 aware of some hidden costs he may not have been aware of and that may have come as a surprise otherwise.

It was a genuine reply on a subject i am knowledgable about with an element of helping someone as well as hopefully myself, to which your instant take it out of context and have a go at me response is so typical.

PC connection leads and power supply is of course not required for diagnostics with the Hawkeye, i did not say they were or imply that, but as i they are required to upgrade it which is svery specifically what enery8 said he wanted to do.

But dont let that stop youi from taking it out of context or ignoring that i specifically stated "for PC connection"

I would get my own info, but its not very likely to be sent back to a Blackbox-solutions.com e-mail address !!!!
I note you dont have any prices for any options either.

But no matter i went and found this quote from which i was thinking anyway

I was quoted £73 each for the airsus cable and the 14CUX cable and £66 each for adapters( there are 4 adapters).

In a nutshell For P38's out of the mentioned 8 ECU's only 3 are accessible.

This is taken from this very informative review about the Hawkeye thread and the hidden pitfalls
RangeRovers.net • View topic - HawkEye Diagnostic Tool Review

Which i could have just pointed to at the start had i wanted to slag it off.

So wonder no more about how come i have a hawkeye but dont let that stop you having more pops at me Redhand. ;)

Thanks Chrisfrain 2007
I confess i had not Googled it before, and had only looked for pricing from the source Bearmach, good news the prices are much lower than i had last been led to believe. Although i thought other models were cheaper than that.

Could still do with the upgrade software though if anyone can help.

PS, Telford is my home town :)

well id rather be in cyprus than telford, lol. do you come from a nice bit? i jus read your link with the chappy from sri lanka, that was a mighty fine offer!

Not today Redhand, i am having a bit of a break from my evil plans for world domination ;)
Well it is Christmas, maybe later perhaps :)

LRO before accusing me of being a rip off merchant, perhaps you should actually read the thread i linked.

Top of ketley bank Chrisfrain2007, My folks tell me it's bad there. Feel guilty as 18 is about the lowest at night we are seeing.

Glad someone read it, I really don't mind helping anyone out and he was such a nice guy i thought it just seemed the right thing to do.

If i can get or make the EAS and update leads at a decent price and get it updated i would flog it off and cover some of my costs.

EAS Software and video how to make your own lead is free on Storey's website rswsolutions.;)

Yes simples isn't it. Though I have to say it does make you wonder why the inventor and builder of the Faultmate would use an Hawkeye?? It doesn't say much for his product? or there again maybe it says a lot about his product??

More likely he want's to find out what it can do to protect his market:rolleyes:

Just wait on rsw solutions.

I'm sure once his software is available for FREE, rip off merchants will go away and try to con peeps that own other car makes.

Dream, it's not free, at the last count the hardware was $250 plus you need a PC. I'm sure eventually it will be a good package but it will always have the disadvantage of needing a PC which will either need a mains supply or a good battery, alternatively the PC will need a psu to power it from the car battery. So, good workshop kit but not so mobile unless perhaps you can use it with a tablet.

Netbook mine runs 12V & the battery lasts about 3hrs.

From experience, 3 hours disappears in a flash on the P38. Doesn't alter the fact that you will need to carry your netbook to use the RSW diagnostics. Also if you are not lucky enough to own a netbook or laptop, you will have to add that to the total cost of the system.

Thanks LRO

Actually the free software or more accurately, and amazingly the actual code for it was first donated by someone anonymously on the Rangerovers.net site, just after i made the the EAS Kicker in response to their members asking. It also included the lead schematics. This was actually the first person after me to actually crack the EAS system i believe. And fair play to the guy for donating it. Of course it did not do me any favours but thats my problem and no need to not recognize and applaud the guys charity.

Unfortunately if you read this thread LRO you will see i am after the lead for the Hawkeye, although if the lead was priced as i was led to believe before chrisfrain2007 helping out, it would be better / cheaper for those getting a Hawkeye to use the open source alternate. But even though its cheaper now, with the VAT it does still add another near 100 GBP to add the EAS and the ability to update it that is not immediately apparent.

If i can get a lead, i don't mind posting up the schematics, same goes for the update one, but as i have said, i have never found any URL to get the update software from.

Yes Datatek, spot on, it is only professional practice to gain hands on experience with whatever else is in the market.
I also have one of the very first NANOCOMS and one of the new NANOCOM EVOLUTIONS, and other equipment that promises any degree of coverage of Land Rovers.

So if i do comment about someone else's product, as many do about mine, at least i have one and have tried it myself, and for those who wrongly jump to the conclusion that i am negative about anything other our equipment, i should perhaps add that i think the new NANOCOM EVOLUTION really is a stunningly nice and very advanced bit of kit. It works really nicely has a great colour graphics display complimented by fast touch screen technology, promises full coverage of the P38 quite soon and i can see it is physically well prepared to do this, and well capable of handling it too.

Thanks LRO

Have you tried the Nanocom support? There are some very unhappy peeps on some forums.

Yea I know Datatek, i read it all too and it's a shame, It's a really great product, but it costs quite big money to employ enough staff to provide good levels of sales, administration, technical support, on going upgrades and development. It's not just the employing of staff, but the providing of the infrastructure, phones, electric, rent, computers, internet access, and so on. It all costs money.

This entire forum has a cost to provide, which i happen to financially contribute to the costs of running. However it likely costs no more or less to provide and run than the dedicated technical support forum i also provide and pay for to our systems owners.

ketley bank aint too bad, theres defo worse. I dont really know much about these bits of kit, im sure owning a p38 i will need to learn more.lol

the hawk eye is made for bearmack by omitec who made the testbook it is a lower spec of what it can do compared to the testbook but for the user/home repairer is a competent machine.
for the more in the know it is based on the omitec t4 lite dealer tool or the omiscan classic unit very robust uses power from the obd2 connector in omitec form the lead is universal did eas and the whole car with no connection issues.
bbs guy you may just need the software to use it

self add know if anybody wants to be taught how to use and understand a diag kit they ahve bought as very little is shown when buying the tools please contact me cheers

I used to run a 24/7 computer support operation covering the whole UK, 30 engineers and 5 programmers on the road in the days before on line diagnosis was possible. Guaranteed engineer on site anywhere in the UK within 4 hours. Now that's backup that costs real money:eek:

Chrisfrain2007:
It is the posh bit right at the very top rather than the Avenues
Now i guess you know for sure i really do come from around there ;)
Don't feel bad you do not know much about the P38's self diagnostic capability, you are certainly far from being in a minority on that front, and in fact even dealerships are still not aware of the full capability that is possible as they get only what Land Rover chooses to give them.

vougese39:
I follow your thought and common belief, but it ain't quite that simple. To show my point, i will ask you to explain the following; If Omitech, who produce the Hawkeye for Bearmach, produced the T4 which covers the Hevac extensively, and are now relying on and re using that knowledge, why does the Hawkeye, which has now been out for some time, still not cover the Hevac at all?

Sorry to sound negative, i am sure someone will be around to rap my knuckles in the now all to common fashion for stating that fact any moment now.
It is however not so much a factor in those earlier vehicles that were covered by the Testbook/T4 it is more the later CAN bus vehicles like the D3 that were developed by Ford and Soley used only Genrad based equipment. Omitech had nothing to do with it.

Datatek:
I don't think i could quite run to those levels of support. ;)
Usage of an on line forum as a sole support provision does however make quite some saving and provides huge benefits to owners, as most points and questions have already been covered before. It also means that owners can help each other as well as openly collaborate, compare and share experiences. Which quickly highlights the existence of any problem we need to address with the obvious joint advantages.

for the engine stuff, and only on v8's i use a cheap elm327 off ebay, it doesnt do a deal but its enough to get you going.

for the home user, at least most home users, the kit that is on the market currently is way too expensive to justify a purchase. at least until something major goes wrong.

RSW's solution will hopefully change that and level the playing field a little for us DIYers
i understand the kit costs lots to make and lots to write the software for but for me, who has several laptops and computers it will be nice to just plug in a cable and sort the car out. its not much of a request.

on the other hand for people who make a living out of diagnostics and repairs as a result i dont think the prices of the kit are too harsh.

ive done extensive searches and to my knowledge there isnt a one for all solution. each manufacturer has different protocols(or at least did on older cars) for different parts of the systems. and these protocols are a pain to sort out and take hours of research and trial and error to phathom.

Finally made up my mind and got my Hawkeye today. Total cost £364.91 including Hawkeye unit, EAS cable, air bag adapter, update cable and next day delivery. Now looking forward to the update due in March. The main reason I have gone for the Hawkeye is that I want to be able to check out various P38s I am considering for purchase. I will report back once I have used it and have something of interest to report.
