Morning All! I'm getting a whistling sort of noise when the clutch pedal is depressed. I reckon I need a new clutch (54 reg XEI on 53k miles), and a local (German) mechanic had a look and reckons I need a new clutch soon too. Does anybody have any idea what it should cost to replace in the UK (local non-mainstream garage quoted Euro 780 which seems a lot but car stuff is expensive here - for instance a clutch kit in UK costs anywhere between £50 - £100 and here they want Euro 300!!).

Had my Freelander 4 months now, managed to get roof bars and a shower cover, euro headlights etc fitted all by myself - not bad for a techno-biff!!

All advice appreciated!!

I don't think it's the turbo whistling, it does it when the vehicle is stationary and the clutch is pressed...?

Prob not turbo then, if its a whistle or a squeak and that's the only symptom id check further before spending big dosh on a clutch...check clutch pedal foe a squeak in clevis pin....also check master cylinder and bracket as hydraulics can make noises to.

Something in the UK is cheaper than abroad

I'm flabbergasted ;)

I think you best find out what sort of kit it is
There may be a reason it is more expensive, ie better quality
