right iv got a 1984 defender 90 2.5 diesel and i was driving up to my dads house and the clutch was fine but when i came back out again got into it and put my foot on the clutch there was no pressure at all as if it wasnt working. so i checked the master cylinder and it had a crack in it, fitted a new one, bled it and no joy, then i discovered the problem that some people have with the clutch release arm so i took it apart to find that there was nothing wrong with it and everything was in the right place but the clutch wasnt working so i dont know whats wrong can anyone help as its really annoying me!!!!!!!!!!

I can see a newbie getting frustrated with us and bogging off, or another slagging off session starting .

So I reckon you haven't bled the system properly. Try doing a search and you should find advice on bleeding the clutch malarky.

Right can we start the slagging off now.

I have experienced problems bleeding this type of system (on Hillman Imps), I have found that removing the slave cylinder from the bellhousing and then holding above the height of the master cylinder whilst bleeding works everytime, the other thing to check if having trouble bleeding is that the bleed nipple is at the top of the cylinder as I have seen loads bolted on round the wrong way with the nipple at the bottom.

ha ha funny well the problem is that i took the slave cylinder off and the release arm was pushed all the way back so when i pushed the clutch it wouldn move it was asif the clutc was already in !!!!
