Hi All

I have just gone to get into the Landie 91 200 tdi and the clutch pedal is very near the floor with little if any play! I did notice last time I used the Landie that the clutch pedal was not popping right up and it was difficult to get in gear but it was late and wanted to get home so did not pay too much attention!

Not knowing very much (stoopid) but learning I had a look and there is little if any clutch fluid in the drum thing :)

My question to you experts is do I just top it up with clutch fluid and it will work, I think this is wishful thinking but thought I would ask! Or is it screwed and what is likely to need replacing?

I would like to try and fix this myself! Unlikely but worth asking!

Thank you for your help

Nick

Hi BearDY89!

Yes I can get it in gear! Does the master cylinder (learnt something already) need bleeding thorugh it could be a quick fix top up!

Or could it be more severe!

Thank you

Nick

Im not 100% sure where its located - someone on here will know - i dont think its in the gearbox so shldnt be too bad of a job

15 quid for the part on ebay, just need to find out where its located - i think its just a case of swapping the parts & bleeding air out - wait for more replies tho as it could b the master cylinder, hope this has helped

Slave cylinder bottom corner of gearbox, 2 bolts and then the pipe. Change flexi pipe while your there. Bit fiddly as its behind the exhast pipe. I took that off aswell to get better access. Master cylinder is easy enough aswell, Change both to be sure, bleed through with some one to pump clutch peddle and hey presto, good clutch. Search old threads for mor help. A reasonably easy job for one who hasn't used spanners a lot.

Thank you all, off to get the parts then going to lock myself in the garage till it works. Might be a few days before I venture out but going to give it a go! I guess this is how I learn!

I found my clutch reservoir empty once after the other half had been driving the landy for a few weeks. Clutch pedal went to the floor etc. I topped it up, bled the system, and haven't had a problem again in over two years. I just top up the reservoir every few months, and even then it's only gone down by a centimetre or so :)

Is it fair to say that you never checked it before you had a problem? ;)

Hi All

Thank you so much for all your advice, it's fixed still cannot believe it!

Topped up the clutch resevoir as it was bone dry! Bled the system and cleaned up the master cylinder as was alittle oily but clutch pedal now fully up and working better than it did before! Master Cylinder may be on it's way out but cannot believe I managed with some help to get it fixed!

Very happy and learnt alot! They really are like a big mechano set!

Thanks again for all advice, great forum.

Glad your on the move again, but bets to get the new parts and do the replacement - problems like this never get better, they only get worse, and it will probably go completely when you're miles from home and ina rush to get somewhere!.

Like the others say, easy job and good way to learn ;)

Sounds exsactly the same as me, when I asked if she had noticed she said no,

How you carnt I will never understand, topped up never checked it since but it's been fine.

if you run out of fluid in the master like i have, i just solved the leak :).. then topped it up and placed a bottle jack on it overnight depressed, this does the trick
if your no good with bleeding, or have no one to help like me !
