Clutch pedal dosent return fully

Ok,
yesterday the clutch pedal wont return fully back to its normal height.
Thinking its probably the pivot trying to make a hole in the release arm??
Usable but getting worse and have to put my toe under the pedal to get it back from the bite point!
Anyone got any ideas? Hoping its more the Master or slave thats gone tits as thats a cheap fix. If not i will have to get into the gearbox and change the release arm to an upgraded jobby.
Problem is i dont have a garage so not looking forward to removing the gearbox on my own. Anyone near warsash that can assist?

From what I gather, if you are replacing the master, then you really should replace the slave too, or vice-versa, as one failing increases the workload of the other? But mainly to avoid bleeding the system and getting your hands dirty twice.
 
Sorry to burst your bubble mate but it's probably hardware related and not hydraulic. It's engine or gearbox out time I'm afraid. Not the easiest or most pleasant of jobs but can be tackled in a full day. An assistant for an hour would be of great help.

Aye thats my suspicion, same happened last time, clutch that was put in has only done about 25k so suspect the Release arm is on its way out as the "mechanic" most probably used the standard marshmallow arm the last time!!
Anyone around Southampton/Pompey area that has the space and know how to help for beers??
 
Heavy duty arms just have a piece of plate welded on the back of the pushrod and pivot dimples, you can do it yourself or pay the extra.

As for the clutch folk are generally happy with Valeo

I know all about the shoddy release arm problem, thats why i told the last so called mechanic to put the one with the weld on it when he did the clutch. Obvious he didnt lol. Want to do it myself so i know its done properly this time. But havent got the space or an engine lift etc :(. May just sell it. Anyone want a 300tdi taxed n motd till November 2016???
 
I've not got a crane or garage either which is why I usually strip out the floor and lift the box.

If you've a removable cross member you can drop the box down without stripping the whole floor/seat box etc.

None of its complicated just time consuming though a bit of careful thought needs to go into lifting/dropping the box.
 
I had this issue with a failed slave cylinder. Like you I was beginning to think the worse until I discovered the leaking clutch fluid at the bell housing. Replaced the seals in the slave and the master and all has been well since.
 
When it stops ****ing with rain i will go and have a look at the master and slave and the return spring.

got a Master cylinder STC100411 will this fit my 1997 300Tdi?
Seems to be lots on fleabay all with different part numbers??? :p
