Clutch or gearbox noise?

Had a call from the garage earlier. Apparently the nice silky smooth bearing that I saw yesterday & really liked was the correct one and it was the one they had just taken off that was wrong. So it seems that they fitted the wrong bearing in the first place last December as part of the kit they purchased from the Land Rover agent. Hoping to get the vehicle back later today all sorted. I'm now more confident than ever that we got to the bottom of the problem, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. Will leave it to the garage to fight it out with Land Rover as to who was to blame.

Just want to give a big thank you to all, especially JamesMartin & cambridgecockney for your replies. It provided all the reassurance I needed. I collected the vehicle from the garage this morning and it seems perfectly fine - nice smooth clutch operation, with no noise, though I will still reserve final judgement until I have tried it again when cold tomorrow morning. As it seem the local Land Rover garage originally provided a kit with the incorrect release bearing, my garage now have to sort out getting their costs back from them.

I think I should also be entitled to some compensation as I have had to put up with the embarrassing noise for some months, not to mention fuel going to and from the garage and my wasted time. As I can't claim against the Main Agent, I'm going to write to my garage so they can include it with their claim. Of course, I'll call my garage before they receive the letter so as not to frighten as after all, it was not actually their fault.

I had a minor bust up with the same Land Rover main agent a year or so ago when I had taken the car into them to diagnose and cure a misfiring problem. After about £500 worth of work they couldn't find anything wrong and said that they would need to send the injectors away, which would cost a further £490. As the final bill was quickly heading for over £1,000, I told them to stop, paid the bill and went away disappointed. Being not one to give up easily, I scoured this website and found that there is a fuel filter which has the purpose of trapping water which can give rise to misfiring. When I looked at my very rusty filter, it was obvious that it had never been changed since new. I fitted a new filter and the misfiring stopped and has never returned since. As this was obviously a known problem I was surprised that the Land Rover "specialist" did not check the fuel filter first, which would have been an easy and cheap fix before embarking on all the investigation work that they undertook. So I complained to the agent and after some exchanges finally agreed to accept a £400 refund. Although I could have held out for the full amount, decided it just wasn't worth any more of my time.
