Hello all, clutch pedal stopped working the other day (94' 300tdi 90 pickup) had about 2" travel on clutch pedal couldnt change gear.
Checked fluid level and was empty, topped up but no visible leaks.
Tried bleeding but nothing coming out and fluid level steady, but clutch now working as it should, possibly a little better!
Anyway new parts on order but cant work out the issue apart from no fluid but no visable leaks?

Any one had this?

As above and if it was a slow leak may evaporate/dry before it can be seen.
When you said " tried bleeding nothing coming out " was there nothing coming out at the slave bleed nipple ? Even when pedal pumped.
 
Wading plug is not in as far as im aware but could be looking at wrong hole (not far from slave?)

Nothing came out but my bleed nipple is at 6 should it not be at 12 oclock as in above hose?

Bleed nipple should be above the pipe (12 o'clock). Wading plug is at the very bottom of bellhousing about 50 - 100mm back from engine block (roughly), think its a square drive
 
Sounds like the nipple may have been blocked and with air in the system not enough pressure built up to clear.
However when clutch fluid runs low just refilling the res can get it working again, recon air in the pipe just finds its way back out to the reservoir.
Somthing is on the way out and need sorting though.
 
Isn't there some sort of damper on the 300tdi clutch pipe line? Seem to remember something on mine. Not sure if these can cause problems
 
I will have another go tomorrow as i was short of time today, will remove and rotate slave and refill/bleed again and double check for wading plug.

As Steve has identified it sounds like your slave cylinder has been fitted upside down. It'll be virtually impossible to bleed upside down. Don't pull it all of the way out when you rotate it as this helps prevent the push rod being pulled out of the fork.
 
Quick update, managed to sort the clutch out, on my own so reverse bled it and its working ok, new master, slave and hose have arrived so will be fitting them next week.
