Afternoon,

My clutch in my D1 300tdi has gone light and the biting point has sunk to the floor,

It was a fair bit higher up than this yesterday,

Also It goes limp on the way back up (when depressing the clutch) and feels like it stop raising around 75% of its return,

Havent lost drive and clutch hasnt slipped as yet, but fear something in the mechanism is letting go

Ideas ?

Sounds like the pushrod pushing through the clutch fork ...

Yes it sounds like the clutch fork has mostly pushed through. To check this, remove to slave cylinder and the rod that connects the cylinder to the fork should be poking out by about an inch or so. If it's flush to the bell-housing, then your clutch fork has failed.
It's then an engine or gearbox out job. On a Defender maybe removing the gearbox could be the easier option.

As said check yer push rod when taken cylinder off, don't pull on it though it will come out, as it's held on by a plastic clip.

Best of luck with the slave and master cylinder hopefully it will sort it :)

If it doesnt, It may end up for sale :(

It's a do-able job if you do it yourself, if you go engine out option, it's really not as bad as it sounds, as long as you have time and somebody to help out on certain bits and internet access with LZ as your home page ;)

Common problem is the fork though :(, I tried changing the cylinders hoping it would solve the problem, but made no difference :( luckily at the time I had not a lot of work and a empty workshop, also not a lot of money! And didn't wanna pay silly money for the clutch to be done by a garage.
