I sold my 110 tonight...when the chap came to get it it wouldn't start, great I thought I don't really want to sell it anyway. I noticed he put his foot on the clutch when he turned the key and it just turned over no start, so I got him to take his foot off the clutch and away it went first turn.
We tested it a couple of times and same thing clutch down no start clutch up fine! Anyway he bought it and is currently driving it home, any ideas why this would occur?

No sense at all...I always dip the clutch.....it was something I started doing when I had an issue starting the landy and it was supposed to put less strain on the starter....pretty sure unless you've got it in gear it wouldn't make much difference .

Unrelated my new corsa refuses to start (software) if clutch isnt pressed.

Ive always pressed the clutch just in case its in gear.
Could be some sort of earth issue, but I cant really see how.

Well thanks for the answers chaps,a mystery. It made it back to new owners home eventually! Water pipe came off after 100 miles fan wore through water pipe after 275 miles, don't understand that at all! So he was recovered final 100 miles..anyway of all the things that might have gone wrong on a 16 yr old td5 I think it went well.

I think the td5 disco had a cluthh switch of some sort, so maybe the defender does as well!
