Been laning over the weekend and on the way home, I noticed that every time i turn a right hander a clunking noise from the front. Also if I turn sharpely to the left the noise is still there but not as loud.

I havent had a chance to have a look at it so would appreciate if somebody has had somtething similar happen and can advise.

I thought it might be the shock not returning back enough under preassure and every time it lifts it springs back.

Could be the wheel bearing having tried to wobble it last night, there was no play.

I have visualy checked the underneath with the light cant see anything out of place.

lastly I thought the springs might be moving around from the articulation on the lanes or setling back in.

Thanks in advance!!

hi, if it's not a spring, have a check at the front shocks, if ok, renew the bushes in the front anti roll bar clamps. They are only a few £s from the LR dealer. There was such a minute amount of movement in the bushes that by pushing and swinging on the roll bar the noise was not audible. and after checking mine i didn't think it was the bushes. Then found a brocken shock, and replaced both front shocks. The noise was actualy 2 problems, and took me a month to find out it was a roll bar bush after all by replacing them as part of the ellmination process. hope this helps. Phil..

Thanks for that

I had a look today lifted the front of the car so the axles were free!
Checked the wheel bearings just in case, tight as anything, the shock was going up and down as usual. the springs hasnt snapped.

The suspension is only a year and a half old, it is a 2 inch lift on it.

Could be the cv joint within the axle, is it a constant noise when driving on lock or more pronunced when it hits a bump on lock?

only when at speed like on the roundabout or a shrp turn .

To be fair it sounds like a spring going back into place.

But its not that as the springs were in place when i checked

How are your end drive flanges (driveshaft to hub). As I have had to replace a driveshaft and drive flange on my 300tdi today, heard a similair noise to yours and that is what I found. The drive flange was moving on the splines and making a clunking noise, upon inspection I found that the splines on the driveshaft where nearly all gone only just catching on the outer edge (once grease crud etc removed), so I replaced both items.

I havent checked them by isnpection, I know I tried to spin move the wheel when it was jacked up.

It moved a quarter to half a turn then it locked which I thought was normal!

CV joint was new 8 months ago !!
