clunk fom underneath when setting off.

can anybody help? when setting off in my 95 300tdi there is a deffinate clunk from underneath floor. you can turn front propshaft backwards and forwards by hand. car has done 12500 miles. only happens in first gear. also have difficulty changing from first to second have to feel the gears in. rest of gear changs are ok. clunk happens when lifting clutch.

could be ujs, diffs, or a-frame ball joint (check that first)

already checked ujs. there ok where is the a frame ball joint?

in the centre of the vehicle, above and forward of the axle
