Hi Chaps, I am a new member as from today and would really like some help on deciding which RR to buy , can you please give me some idea of the fors and against for each model , I currently drive a 7 series BMW which is very good but I feel its time for a change , I did have a diesel classic along time ago but this time it has to be a petrol , so if you have any opinions on either car please say .Cheers.:cool:

Why you against diesel? I admit they aren't the fastest in the world, but if you wanted fast, you wouldnt be buying a landy!

I have a 2.5DT P38 (BMW Engine) which is chipped and gives reasonable performance, and returns around 30mpg. It depends what you want to do with it, if you want to go off road alot, go for a classic, if you want luxury on the road get a P38. :)

I actually never said I was against diesels ,I also drive a diesel galaxy ,anyway, I just fancied a petrol because I have never had a big v8 motor and the diesel Ihad in my classic was one of the early Itailan diesel engines and it was not very good at all , I should imagine your BMW diesel engine must be very good ,if you have anymore info please let me know I am willing to change my mind if Ithink there is a good reason to .:cool:

i must admit i would like a V8 petrol just for the roarrrrr, but it aint a company car, so i have to pay for everything my self, so a chipped diesel is your best bet, or lpg if u can be arsed filling up every 200miles.

A chipped 2.5 gets around 165bhp, with much improved torque and performance over the standard setup. And being a diesel lump they are near indistructable. I had a few probs when i bought mine a few years ago, needed cyl heads skimmed and a new clutch and flywheel, but since then it hasnt missed a beat, im really impressed with it. just make sure you get one with a documented service history, doesnt have to be landrover, as long as you can see that all the major parts have been properly maintained. I would pay the £75 or so it costs for the AA or RAC to inspect before you buy, believe me its well worth it with a P38 as there are alot of duds that may cost you an arm & two legs to fix. hope this helps.

Hi

Could you give us an idea of price for said engine chipping?

i bought mine chipped already, but if you are good at electrics and can do it yourself i have seen adverts in various LR mags for just the chip at around £100*. A fully fitted service is quoted at around £400*

* subject to availability! ;)
