Disco 2 Christmas comes early to my Dashboard

This is a good one, Over the few years I have had the Disco 2 I have had various interesting warning light issues most of which go away when you turn off and back on and some of which were genuine and I have fixed. The latest extravaganza has got me rather flummoxed though. It starts off with the Three amigos coming on, next the Battery light and SRS light come on, that's not all. The indicators decide (if you are so rash as to use them) that having indicated the direction arrow on the dash will stay on flashing away merrily and refusing any attempt to be canceled, the indicator its self has cancelled but then you cant indicate again. After a minute or so it spontaneously cancels its self until such time as you rakishly indicate again. finally while all this is going on the battery voltage rises and falls causing the lights to dip and then brighten and the fuel pump to wail like a banshee. I am thinking bad earth somewhere, anyone else seen this?

It could be due to faulty earth(s), but it could equally be due to moisture ingress in the IDM which is built into the back of the passenger compartment fuse board behind the panel beneath the steering wheel.
It's a nice idea to treat the whole performance as the effects of one fault but be prepared also for it to be due to a number of different causes. Regarding the 3 amigos, you'll probably need to get the DTC's or fault codes read to start sorting things.
To be honest, I don't yet see how the voltage can exceed 12 volts (within normal running tolerances) unless you have a problem with the charging circuit somehow.

Defintely sounds like under-dash fuseboard / IDM to me. I had very similar effects a couple of years ago. The circuit board was very badly corroded on the bottom edge. A good used replacement sorted it out.

Thanks Brian, when it stops Snowing I will have a look, typical today was the first day I have ever really needed its 4x4 capabilities and its buggered, hay ho, at least the wifes Jimney is ok.

So there are no fault codes in the ECU, have replaced the fuse box, with another, same fault, all the idiot lights on, no response to the steering column controls. Anybody want a Landy with 12 months MOT an an odd wiring fault? No seriously it is up for sale.

If there's no response from the stering controls I'd be looking at the rotary coupling on the steering whee,l but I'm sure our electrical wizzards will be along soon.

You're 43 posts short of being able to sell on here keep rooting the cause of your issue though and you'll soon be at 50

Yep, think I have sussed it, alternator putting out 17 volts. It's only a few months old too.

Yep, that could upset the applecart a bit.
If I were you, I'd get that alternator back from hence it came. An output like that could also cook you battery, so a careful check of all the connections in the charging circuit would be in order too.
