Chirping sound on start up?

Wowsers! Can't believe that one lil innocent question has resulted in this :) :)

I think I am going to totally disappoint but the sound just disappeared the day after I posted and before I got round to the talcum powder or any of the other "fixes" suggested. I haven't changed the oil (or topped it up for that matter) so will leave it at that and see what way the pictures/mags flow ... ;)

What a cop out. Very likely to have been tensioner/Belt related. Chances of it being oil related about, lets think, how can i put this, don't want to cause offence. Oh that's it, ZERO. :D:D:D

you to$$er!!! definately oil related.... they used a flush in the engine that stripped the old oil from the engine...i bet if deranged rang the garage they would confirm that, the oil has now worked it's way back in to the moving parts of the engine!!! it aint the belt tensioner if it was then it would still be chirping......chirpy chirp chirp!!! do you hear it you old fart???:p

Deranged when was the oil last changed???

now sir wammers!......... did you say you were sending me naked photos of yourself???? afterall i think i won!!! get your kit of big man...woo hoo!!:pop2::hysterically_laughi

Don't be silly now. Where in the engine do you suggest this errant part could be located. And just what would it be rubbing on to make a chirping noise? You really would not want to see photos of me with my kit off. Bet your glad you lost. Now where are my photos. Indian giver. :p

Oil was changed approx 6 weeks back and there was no chirping for almost 5 of those weeks so don't think it would have taken that long for the oil to get through to the parts ... if it did I would be worried as would probably knacker out the engine ...

I am guessing something loose somewhere that sorted itself out when I drove it through a pothole. Am going to just let sleeping dogs lie for now unless it recurs.

Its back!

Slight chirping sound on the weekend but it disappeared again. Then yesterday, was out for a quick coffee with the missus and all of a sudden it was there with a vengeance ... only this time it sounded very metallic ... almost like something loose was flapping around on the right hand side of the engine.

Couldn't stop where I was so had to carry on (albeit very slowly). Then it sort of faded away before we got to where we were going. When I restarted the car a short while later it was gone. Nothing, nada!

Wammers, Ladyranger, over to you ...

Fan belt tensioner pulley, idler pulley. Or belt worn slipping when alternator is under load. Have a look at inside of belt and see if it's polished. Answer does not change, it certainly won't be wrong oil.

has wammers paid you to bring this up again???
:hysterically_laughi

Come on then lets have you opinion on what it is. I agree with wammers would be top answer. Anything to do with wrong oil will have me laughing to much to type a reply so be gentle.
