Got a td4 and was wondering if putting a stage 1 chip in is worth it? Just wondered if it did anything good to performance and fuel economy.
Any ideas?

Hi

Never heard of a Stage one chip. Heard of Stage one Engine work, Stage three and in some cases stage 2. Chips are Chips all they do is remap the fuel/Engine management to give more or less fuel at a set interval and pressure, normally better than the manufactures programming. Diesels are very different than petrols on how the fuel map works. A lot of diesels have a mechanical pump so there will be no point.

Only draw back is some ECU's will try to revert back to original programming so they go in "Limp Home Mode". Be very warey of them as some are a waste of money and a vast majority of ECU's require two chips (Some sellers don't supply two) I have read that you, on occasions, need to have the ECU reprogrammed again in a set mileage.

To get a better performance out of the engine to a noticable degree get a sports exhaust as well as the exhaust ports polished as well as the engine cleaned/balanced etc.

In the long run you get better mpg better or worse performance (Dependant on engine condition)

Hope this si some help
