A while back, I saw a post requesting information about turning off
the automatic headlights on a Chevy Tracker. The headlights turn on
automatically when you start the engine. But when the emergency brake
is on, the headlights turn off. In my Tracker, I can pull the
emergency brake handle 1 click and the headlights turn off. It also
makes the 'Brake' indicator light come on on the dashboard. I have to
pull the handle 4 clicks before the emergency brake will engage. I've
driven up to 75mph with the brake in the 1 click position with no
problems. There is some kind of optical sensor though. This trick
works during daylight, but at night the headlights still come on
anyways. The emergency brake trick might work on other vehicles too,
but I haven't tried it yet.

I'm not sure, but your brake trick is killing the daytime running lights.
Your headlights are a completely different circuit. If you simply want to
go without the DRL's, pull the fuse.
