Personally l am not a fan of chequer plate.

But my wife has bought me a pair of sills for my 110. They are satin black and seem like really good quality (Terrafirma?)

Anyway, l tried them in position and they do look the part, as my CSW 110 is dark blue.
But l have to drill 12 holes in the vehicle to fit them, which l am never happy about doing.

So....should l fit them or not? What is the general opinion on chequer plate for Defenders used primarily on the road?

upto you mate, i prefer the standard look.. but i'm going to fit wingtops as it is useful to fling crap/stand on the wings

if they go ontop of the existing sills, then you could always glue em on using tigerseal/sikaflex/pu but they won't be coming off easily anyway :)

I use RTV sealant between the panels and the plate to prevent dirt and water accumulating and causing oxidation, I already had chequer plate sills on my XS, just swapped them from silver to black and reused the existing holes.

I do know what you mean about a clean fresh looking Defender without chequer plate though.

I like chequer plate, but then my sills and the bottom of my doors were starting to go.
