Checks before towing long distances?

Hi Graham,

No not done the blank yet wasn't sure how it would affect my remap to be honest.....ie. Would it need to be mapped again?

I heard something about 2 stroke but not in detail. I have been using Wynns injector cleaner in every tank.

Thanks for the invite to C4U I will have to get on there later..... Unless u happen to know the tyre size and stud arrangement of a Bailey Ranger..... This one I bought has no spare apparently!!

Mike

No problem glad to help.

I wouldn't think it would affect the remap by doing the EGR blank if anything I would think it would make it even better, you would certainly notice a difference when done thou. A bit of a messy job cleaning the air intake manifold out but using plenty of Mr Mussel oven cleaner makes it an easy job.

You can add the 2 stroke oil with every tank full, it lubricates the whole fuel system and makes the engine run a lot smother and quieter, I've been using 250ml with every tank full for well over a year now with no bad affects, car even seems to pull a lot better since using it.

Cheers

Graham

Just one last thought. Have you got a damp meter to check for any damp in the caravan ??? See if you can download the following jpeg and take it with you to test.

Lol :) thank god for that for a minute I thought I had been a bit foolish expecting to tow a big van with it.

I have just had it remapped to give me a bit more grunt when towing so hopefully all will be good ;)

It'll be fine as long as you take it easy. I'v towed 2 Ton with my V6 many times without an issue, although my front drive shafts are now goosed at a 37K miles :( but with 1.2 ton you should be fine.

Great stuff. I love Landrover products..... (With the exception of that RRS that blew its turbo in less than a week).

Does the EGR removal throw up an engine management light then?

Yeah I bought a digital one and was told to watch out for anything above 16%

Is that right?

Yes that's right 16% and below is a normal reading 17% to 25% needs attention anything over that is a major problem.

No engine management light but you might get the duck noise LOL. Which is easily sorted.

Lol..... :0)

I am planning to change all the hoses for silicone ones and will do the EGR at the same time I think. I will have to get some instructions on the EGR blank mind. I have been looking at them on eBay. Is there any particular one to go for?

I've got the black one on mine paid around £25 for it some have gone for the silver alloy one which I think is more expensive. Just make sure the little bit of pipe for the vacuum hose is blanked off and does not have a hole going into the EGR blank.

Hi Graham I am just about to buy one of those ones you have. Is the pipe bit the straight bit thet is on the opposite side to the piece that looks like a tap????? Is that so you don't have to put a screw/ballbearing in the pipe then?..... Why do some have a hole then? Is that so the Light doesn't come on the dash?

Sorry for all the questions :O/

No some people make them with the hole right through, this is not needed as the intention is to block it off. It's the very small piece of tube that is sticking out on the opposite side of picture, the piece with what looks like a big washer on the end is the bit that connects the exhaust gas re-circulation pipe from the exhaust. Nothing to do with the light at all it won't come on.

Thanks Graham just to be sure ..... Its these parts we are talking about right?

Do I need any gaskets or special clips?

Yes that's the parts, the vacuum hose fit's back over the small pipe. If I remember correctly it comes with a large "O" ring you'll see where it goes when you get it but it goes in between the blank and the head.

Just ad a look on the car and it seems simple enough.

Not sure what part needs cleaning with ovenpride tho :O/

Just heard a funny knocking from the rear arch where the fuel pump is I am assuming because it is all loose in there it is just the pump resonating against the plastic arch.

Also heard a noise in the engine bay like the fans were going but they were not!! It seemed to be coming from behind the near side headlight and aswell as sounding like a fan it had a constant high pitched tone to it aswell

Any thoughts?
