cheap range rover sport services

I have come across lots of issues I cannot fix myself. I think the issue was the OP asking for a cheap garage. Anyone working on the L322 or L320 and those coming after them, who are 'cheap' ,are very unlikely to be good. Those who are good, whilst not as expensive as the stealer, are still not cheap. There is also the, anyone buying one and wanting to do things on the cheap, should have walked on past. Nothing is cheap about these vehicles , apart from the price they can now be bought for. Even those who can do the work themselves, still have the silly money parts to buy, the hours needed to work on them and the cost to their sanity.
If it is a 'cheap' Range Rover someone is looking for, by all accounts, it would seem the only chance of that is the P38. The parts seem reasonable, most work can still be done by an ok amateur with a spanner and some guidance, and there are plenty out there to get spares off. On top of which most mechanics, in independent garages, don't have a sharp intake of breath and look of fear when you drive one in. Unlike the later models.
If nothing else, the replies may have helped the OP readjust his expectations on doing things on the cheap.

Hi

Think we’ve all seen it , where it’s not just a cheap repair they want but wish to also fit the cheapest parts they can , including cheap brake parts then wonder why there 3 x ton brick doesn’t stop very well

I have had a customer turn up with an eBay cambelt kit and secondhand water pump....
After telling him that I wouldn't guarantee any work due to questionable quality to both the kit and pump, I mentioned that if I was to fit the parts and they failed causing damage to his engine, he would Inevitably tell people "mark did it"!!!!
Second hand parts are a no no..
If I am going to supply it, it'll be new, a recognised quality make and it'll be fitted once and correctly.:)

Think u knew straight away how the scenario was going to end , lol

Had that at work when I was a heating engineer, customer had bought either a gas fire or boiler at a boot fair and wondered why I refused to fit it

I always said how much is ur family worth as them ;)

Does amaze me seeing people buy old brake pads at boot fairs

Which reminds me , I wonder how our ill-mannered friend with the dodgy box of brake pads got on, in the other thread.

Can't believe the short cuts some folk insist on. My indy uses only LR parts unless you insist - and you don't always get your own way. He's just replaced both front to back brake pipes on the TDV8 at what I think is a very reasonable £133 incl vat. Only way to go isn't it?

hi can anybody tell me were I can get a good cheap service in Warwickshire or near Coventry for a range rover sport thanks

I have heard good things about EH Douglas in Wardington. But I have never used them for work, I just get some spare parts there.

Cheers

That’s clears that up then, lol

Blimey what an arrogant @&@&#£# to tell u that , cheeky git

Apologises didn’t realise u also had a garage,, plus as they say takes years to get a good reputation and 5 x minutes to ruin

Plus how many times have u heard of a new member coming here and saying they’ve never worked on a vehicle then ask how to i fit new brakes , be afraid , very afraid

I bought my D3 as a project and wow has it been a steep learning curve, but me being a sad old git really enjoy working on it, apart from when I replaced the rear upper wishbone , what a job that was
got it in one mate, a lot are only in the game for the fast buck, had guy in once for a new water pump and alternator, his diagnosis, because the battery was going flat and the engine was overheating, when he picked it uplater,in the afternoon he could not believe the bill, we had charged him 1/2hr Labour and for a new fanbelt.he booked it in for a full service for the next day and were still doing all his and his families vehicles until the mid 90's

I think that garages are now obliged to offer second hand parts here in France if the part is available.
