Lidl are selling their excellent maintenance chargers again this Thursday - they've gone up a whopping £2 to £14.99.

LIDL Great Britain - lidl.co.uk

I have three of em, two are connected to seldom used vehicles permanently.

Superb smart charger at a silly price. When connected permanently they automatically monitor and trickle charge the battery when voltage starts to drop off. I've had em on my 'scope - the power is as clean as my £139 Ctek charger - which looks remarkably similar!

I'm sure someone took one apart on the Rover75 forum and said it did have CTEK stamped on the board.

Anyway, I have one too connected to my boat and it really looks after the batter.

It is made in Germany too - the charger Aldi sell is supposed to be very good as well, but I've had no experience of that.

I am outdated can you date up about this charge ?

It's a typical "smart" charger, it has a programme to reduce sulfation of the plates, it will monitor and charge the battery in cycles, allowing it to discharge naturally and then charge when it reaches a certain point, constant trickle charging will kill a battery, smart chargers will not damage a battery.

This has a 6V mode as well for those with antique cars or bikes.

I bought push together battery connectors from Hobby Stores (what they use for rechargeable battery packs) so I can just plug the charger straight into whichever vehicle I'm charging without taking the battery off - with an in-line 10A fuse of course.

I love the lip syncing on the video. Clearly the original was in German and they have translated it all exactly. The guys voice doesn't fit the guy in the video either. It is quite amusing.

May have to swing by my local Lidl though, sounds like a handy bit of kit to keep in the garage.

I have just bought the Aldi smart charger for £13.99. 3.8A and has a nice panel showing volts and which stage it is at. I have got a small ctek as well and I would say the Aldi one is better.

I'll have to get an Aldi one to complete the set!

I could post some oscilloscope screens comparing the cleanliness of the power supply.

As a side note, these chargers are also available here in Poland from Lidl too,

I got one today, good to see they do the roll out of new stock all at the same time across Europe:D
