Chassis swap suggestions & opinions

If you're getting a chassis dipped it makes 1million percent sense to get all your brackets and stuff done too.

Galvanise or passivate as much as you can.

You may be alarmed that the two disco rebuild heavies have jumped on this guns blazing BUT trust me we speak through experience.

Do it and be a Landyzone hero! :)
 
P.s. find a mate with a hiab or forklift.

Strip your body down and remove all exterior panels, then let it down on the floor and rest it on its side on some old mattresses.

Oh my god disco body repair heaven!!
 
Not alarmed at all, pal. This is exactly the sort of advice I'm after. :clap2:

Already thought of getting anything and everything galvanised while I'm there.
I'll certainly be going to town on it when I do eventually get round to it. Probs gonna be around next summer after all the ****ty weather.
Just gotta decide who I'm going to use for ramp/space rental etc.

And obviously I'll be doing a full-on picture progress album. :D

Kinda looking forward to it but a little apprehensive at the same time.

Maybe I'll be parked next to yours at the next indoor 4x4 show. :D
 
It's one of those mate where you'll be like "OH MY GOD will this pain never end?!?" but then when it's done, your hands are ****ed, you haven't more than 6 hours sleep in any given night for months and you've cut down shaving to a bi-weekly affair you'll think "hey it wasn't that bad, and look at what I've built for myself" :D
 
Not sure if they're will be another "indoor 4x4 show" !

I think they might be packing it in mate, especially seeing as David @ llama4x4 is organising the return of the ORIGINAL indoor 4x4 show now at Donington show ground, it's set to wipe the floor with the TOR show.

Was talking to Dave trying to see if it could get my car into the show but he said they are crammed full with exhibitors and cannot allow any space for static vehicle display, which is a shame!

Offered to stand and talk land rover all day to passers by but he said they just can't manage it :(
 
That's a shame. It wasn't the biggest event but I quite enjoyed that weekend.
In fact, I think the indoor display pulled more attention than the main trade stands! Some very inspirational Landies there that day.
 
True say mate, the modified display was a nice touch, not something you tend to get at an indoor show.

Tbh the TOR show was a bit thin on the ground this year, I have heard that they were charging exhibitors a lot basically so a lot of people ditched it.

Dave at llama also said he thought the staffs venue was too big, I didn't think it was that monstrous tbh!! :eek:

Anyway, there's over 50 exhibitors booked for donny already and they're nearly full, whereas TOR website hasn't been updated so I assume that kinda shows the situation.

Just a shame as you say that they can't fit/don't want any privately owned vehicles on display.

I did like the features of the TOR show, the modified arena, the seminar area, the challenge area they had in 2011 also. I wonder it there will be a 2013, or if donny will have anything else but exhibitors?

Whilst a two post ramp would be great to lift the body off, you have enough time to sort an alternative out I'm sure. Scaffold poles make great structures..

I will certainly be following your build thread as soon as it begins so any encouragement you need just post HELP in big letters and there will be plenty of people to lend a hand, some even physically.

I would love to do a show. Never done one before but I'm not entirely sure the hornet is clean enough or has enough fancy bits on it tbh.
 
We used 6x2's and large ammo boxes stacked on top of each other to lift the body of Robins disco. managed to get it high enough to drag his chassis out and slide mine underneath it.
 
Green Hornet, your presence has just reminded me - my chassis seems to be, I'd say, 95% good enough for any future project, so would be more than happy to give you first offer if you wanted it.
Could probably even get it galvanized given the low prices I've been quoted and simply sell it on at galv costs + say £50 for the chassis itself being as you're a heavyweight LZ member. :D
 
When the time comes I may just be interested. Depends on how I want the body to end up. Fancy a 100" conversion with portal axles, that would be different.

Planning very much the key word at the minute, mate.
Looking into the possibilities of doing it here at home rather than rent a ramp at a garage, as I'll be very restricted otherwise.

I've currently got a single, stand alone, concrete sectioned type garage in the back garden, but have plenty of room to both widen and lengthen it.
It'd need to gain a few feet in height, too, and would have to have a few RSJs put in at the same time in order to accommodate the block and tackle equipment that'd be needed to lift the body.

And I've no doubt I'll be putting out a few SOS calls when the time comes, too. :eek:
