Behind the fuel tank (side tank), there is a piece of steel tube that comes out the side of the chassis, then stops with a piece of plate drilled in random places. This then bolts onto the bottom section of the metal that makes up the seperator between the driver area and the back load space. (90 hard top). On my 90 one side is damaged, one side is almost rusted away to nothing, do these just get cut off and new ones welded on?
I belive the parts I am needing are http://www.paddockspares.com/search.asp?searchbox2=2%29+Chassis+Parts&subcategory=Chassis&category=DEFENDER
"Tube rear of tank outrigger - 90 - RH & LH, although the RH is fine just now."
Also if these are just rewelded in, how good would the wleing have to be, I can arc weld, and if I took my time, got the surfaces nice and clean I could make it go in and be solid, is that acceptable, I can't see this part being deadly important.
Once I cut the old one off, would there be a hole in the chassis which I would have to clean/drill out to then insert the new one? Then put weld all round the tube where it meets the chassis on both sides?
Sorry to go on and on but I just need to get this sorted out.
