Sorry if this is in the wrong place! Hello all, I had a loom at the serial number on my chassis of my defender (front right hand rail) the numbers are all over the place and badly stamped, do you reckon this could mean someone's been up to no good or is it just the landrover trend, there's no grind marks present and it's 97 defender 300 tdi , I'll try and upload a photo later when I can work out how to do it haha!

Does anyone else have numbers in a elaborate layout??

Mine are straight and neat, does your have a replacement galvanised chassis? You should also have the same number on the data plate on the brake servo and the metal tag on the passenger side dash top (visible through windscreen) and V5

yeah the numbers the same as on the v5 and data plate but no the chassis is not a gavl one unfortunatly, its just badly stamped and not in the neatest line, one of the L looks like its been stamped on the same part twice ! it worried me if i have a ringer or somthing

Should be neat and straightish. Could that section have been replaced and the number restamped? Could be a ringer but there's no easy way to tell without involving the authorities (who X-ray it or something) and that could involve confiscation. So I'd keep quiet if I were you.
If it's any consolation, ringers aren't normally that involved so it may well be an innocent repair.

Well the rest of the motor checks out but I am going to sell it soon, I don't want anyone to think I'm selling a dodgey motor to them, it's doesn't look like a repair section I must be honest. Your right it could be a donated chassis for what ever reason I don't know it's just a dam pain, thanks for all the replies btw!
