Changing the whole interior

Im gonna change out the whole interior on my 99' L series for a 2003 pre facelift interior. Today i have the old gray granny panty interior which have belonged to a grease monkey for the last year(that would be me). Its full of scratches and oil. The new interior is black cloth interior from a 2003 model. Which in my opinion looks a lot better.

I guess i need some new plastic rivets, clips and so on. But i dont know which ones i need. Or is it possible to undo the door cards without braking anything and reuse? The 2003 model doesnt have a sunroof so will not reuse the roof lining/headliner.

Any tips will be highly appreciated.

And yeah, there is electric rear windows(5 door). Where today i have manual ones. Change the complete door and repaint or is possible to just swap out the internals?

Everything should be a straight swap. The rear door motors will swap over too, use the wiring from the later car.
It's interesting that on the LHD version the heater switchs are laid out the same as the RHD model!! And the pedals are of to the right?

I think the picture is lying a bit. The pedals are were they should be. Everything feels like a LHD car, except the bloody bonnet lock latch is on "our" passenger side.

Do you know if its possible to undo the door cards without breaking the rivets and clips?

To keep costs down, the basic dash is as symmetrical as possible. Apart from the rubber trims on the top, exactly the same dash parts are used in LHD and RHD versions. all mountings for the instrument binnacle are duplicated on both sides. Same for the pedals, it is the same pedals on both versions.

JRNORWAY, yes it is quite easy to get the trims on and off without breaking the clips.

I was thinking more the centre console heater controls.
The whole lot is laid out the same as the RHD version. It's slightly better in some respects as the heated window switch is closer to the driver. On ours it's miles away and the little used recirculation button and AC button are closest??

We get the same deal with bonnet release handles as all German and French cars have them on our passenger side.

I've just had the interior out and back in to my Disco 1.
Didn't break a single clip.
I spent 8 quid on some trim removal tools and they proved invaluable!

Well, those too. Having the switches the other way round would mean the wiring looms would have to be different and having the knobs the other way round may require different lengths of control cables. No point in spending out on these differences (not just manufacturing the parts, but probably an ass-load of development work too) for something that just means reaching a few inches further if they keep one single system for both variants.

This is a sure-fire way to spot cars that are potentially simple to convert from LHD to RHD and vice versa - dash and centre consoles that are symmetrical and electric window controls on a centre console rather than on the doors (with the drivers door having the master controls). This often suggests that they have streamlined production for both LHD and RHD versions with as few differences as possible between them, so it may well be possible for people like me to just switch over the specific handed components to change drive side.

Remember that You can't use gauge cluster. Different pinout in harness, and some functions are CAN driven.
Also if you got front fog lights, there is no equivalent switch in black.

That was a great help with removing all trims. Only 15 pounds, but job was quicker and simple

Winu, where did you get that trim clip set? Picked piece by piece or is it a set?

That tool set did also look nice. But when i see it, i think i have what i need to take it apart. I bet you used the one with the red handle for the most of the time?

Yes i know about the cluster and there isnt any fog lights on this one. So thats not gonna be a problem.

And what happened to your car thread? I got a lot of motivation to work on my L series when i saw how much you did

Trim set was completed piece by piece , but this is not a big deal. I can post you a part numbers if you would like. About 170 Pounds for all.

I use almost all tools from set. Plastic ones are good for door cards, and other flexible items, metal one (long) was perfect for B and C/D pillar trims (clips are very deep). "Key hook" was perfect for console elements.

Car thread was deleted, one of picture hosting server have some spam problems. Admins says to not re-posting it .

You can post partnr for the pieces those that are most likely to break if its not to much trouble.

Im not gonna change the headliner/roof lining because i have a sunroof on mine. It might be possible to cut the no-sunroof headliner to shapearound the sunroof and use existing trim. But i dont think im gonna bother with that. Seems like time consuming job all together.

Ok, thats too bad. I liked to watch the progress you did.

Most likely those blacks are damaged when removing trims (keep door cards and few other things in place) A,B,C and D posts trims have metal one clips (greens)

BTW this FL got power fold mirrors. How do they originally work? Pushing the mirror adjuster button and they fold or do they fold automatic when locking doors?

Mirrors fold when you move the button downwards (I think) certainly don't fold when locking doors.

Power folds require the button to be pushed down for fold and unfold. They aren't automatically folded on locking but I'm looking into making fold automatically
