Changing the clutch, flywheel got a bit hot

Hi all
I've been away for a while having SORN the Freelander & been using the bike, but now I've had the Td4 MOT'd I've started changing the clutch.
Eventually got everything off but noticed the pressure plate & flywheel had got a bit hot whilst using the car and trying not to make the clutch slip!
Having removed the old pressure plate it still has some meat left on it but the springs are all very loose and not doing much at all.
This is what the flywheel looked like.

What do you guys think? Can I use wet & dry to smooth it out and fit the new friction plate & pressure plate?
 
Not the best of condition flywheels, even if it would clean up just remember it is a dual mass fly wheel - so if the clutch has been slipping it could have damaged the internals of it from excess heat.

If it was mine, I think I'd be looking to replace it for peace of mind. Not a job you want to be doing twice.

I've got a Borg & Beck clutch, do I have to go for the same brand flywheel or can I use the slightly cheaper Luk flywheel?
 
You can mix and match clutch kit brand to the flywheel brand that's not a problem - and as far as I'm aware LuK is the brand flywheel TD4 Freelanders have on out the factory.

I've also fitted LuK flywheels to TD4 Freelanders and (touchwood) had no issues. :)
 
The last couple of flywheel clutch change I have done I have gone for the LUK Single mass flywheel conversion kit comes complete with everything you need for under £400.

The dual mass flywheel was only fitted to freelanders as a noise and vibration countermeasure NOT for any issue of reliability .( they wanted it to be more carlike) the single mass flywheel can be fitted with impunity to no ill effect what so ever !, In fact I would defy anybody to tell the difference once fitted.

Must say it have seen worse on VWs. As long as the flywheel springs are still good and no slack would probably be ok.

That said having don't the job I wouldn't want to do it again in a hurry so if you can afford it a new one would make sense.

I took the gamble when I did mine and it's been fine.
