I have just bought a Disco 2 commercial and am about to fit rear seats to convert it to a car. Does anyone have any thoughts about how easy or difficult it is to change the tax class from LGV to PLG. I have had conflicting advice - The DVLA's helpline told me it was not possible at all but the Post Office website appears to suggest that it can be done as long as "supporting evidence" is provided. I presume thats means photographs of the fitted seats and seatbelts etc. Anyone done it?

Personally, I would be more concerned about making sure that the conversion is OK with your insurers.

Regarding DVLA, I would be inclined to just notify them of a change in seat numbers, using section 7 of your V5C and see what response you get.

Swinging the other way :)rolleyes::rolleyes:) I changed my 7 seater to 5 and the DVLA/insurers were fine.

I enquired at my (then, now closed) local LVLO as to the ins and outs of a conversion and the response was they are not interested. Once a vehicle is classed as a commercial then thats it.

The insurance company (NFU) likewise were not interested after it was explained that the bodyshells are identical on the production line and the only difference is, essentially, trim and seats as seat and seatbelt mounts utilise existing factory original captive buts etc.

All they said that was required was for them to make a note on the policy regarding conversion (quite common in farmer circles, they explained) and that was that. No change in insurance premium and, likewise, DVLA tax due.

Bonus....
