Hi All. I know there's been loads of discussion on this but I have looked around and tried every method I can find.... here's the story...
Battery costantly goign dead for last few years - keep charging and it's OK then dies... eventually batery gave up completely (nbot a surprise!).
So I checked all was OK by jump starting from my MGTF (amazing such a small thing will jump start such a big car in a few seconds!)... Rangie strarted first turn of the key as normal with power..
So I checked the size for the niggest capacity battery I can wedge in (I have LPG and the ECU for that takes a bit of battery tray area). Found a Yuasa 12V Silver Car Battery HSB096 in Halfrauds and got a do=iscount on it - so plumped for that one as it had higher capacity than the original and better cranking power - oh and a 5 year guarantee!
So I popped off the old battery, cleaned everything up, even the earth points. Popped new battery on and the car locked, lights flashed etc, just as it does if I charge the dead battery.
However on trying to open the doors with the fob nothing. Tried several resync methods (including the two 'super secret' dealer ones!) and still won't sync.
The weird thing is that if i use the key in the drivers lock the central locking does open all the doors. After a few tries, or if I try the key in ignition method a few times, the car jumps to 'key code lockout' and I am back to square one! Then have to wait 30 minutes (seething through each of them).
I'd say faulty lock apart from the fact it worked just fine before the battery change. I have had it before occasionally when the battery died, but usually I'd pop the key in the ignition and press a few times and voila! I am not sure if my car (1998 4.6HSE) has the passive sync or not to be honest - maybe it was just the fob taking a while, who knows!
I am tempted to disconnect the new battery and leave it over night to clear everything down, and then start again maybe?
Any help greatly appreciated. I inherited the old guy from my dad when he died so he has quite a sentimental value - otherwise he'd probably be gone by now!
