Hello! I am a new owner of a Td6. The year is 2004 and the mileage is 113,000 miles. Just a quick question that has probably been covered before on the forum. I recently had a service performed by Land Rover on the car and did not change the oil in the transmission. I am getting concerned in terms of whether to change the oil in the trans or not?. Land Rover tell me that it is sealed for life. But would not a change of oil in the transmission help matters?. I mean in terms of taking a preventative measure?. So far all is good with the transmission and there are no notable problems?. What is your advice?. Or should i not change something that is working perfectly well?. If so what also oil is the best for the job?. Thanks in advance.!:)

I dunno .. but it seems you'd prefer the answers from people you don't know to the advice of the people you bought the vehicle from! OK, some of 'em are shysters but if the handbook says sealed for life, I wouldn't worry much, but I'd instead ask 'them' what they mean by sealed for life. Is it a mileage, a yearly count, till it breaks etc ...

changing oil would help, car manufacturers are intereseted more in service costs not life of a mechanical unit

Even if it doesnt spec it go to a full synthetic trans oil , as its worth it in the long run , handles heat much better eg Redline or Amsoil

Yes, round about the 1950s manufacturers noticed that if you stopped putting grease nipples on everything, that it didn't increase warranty claims so they started using the magic words 'sealed for life'. Propshafts, hubs, suspension mountings, even things like starter motors and dynamos - all sorts of stuff was advertised as 'sealed for life'. The bearings themselves hadn't changed much, of course, but the advertising did.

Yet another one post wonder!

Good advice an then sods off ... And no introduction!

Doesn't even read the rules :rulez::whoosh::doh:
