Hi,
I've got a new (to me) CCV V8, most parts and engine are from a RR classic). The power steering resevoir is located in a really bad position and the tank itself is in very poor condition. I plan to replace it with the tank pictured below, is someone able to help with a couple of basic questions ?!

* Is there any reason why this new tank wouldn't work ?

* Does the tank need to be fitted at a certain height for any reason (like a header tank), or can it go anywhere ?

* The current system has two equally sized hoses going to the resevoir. The new tank has one connection smaller than the other. Is it ok to reduce the existing hose at the end to fit the new tank ? I'm guessing the new tank functions slightly differently to the old one. Do I need to hunt for a different tank ?

Thanks all

That’s looks a standard power steering res for most LR/RR.
Unsure how far you can locate from steering box most are above the box. As the flow from box goes direct into this.
Mount higher than the pump.

Thanks for the reply.

One hose connector on the new tank is smaller than the other. How do I deal with that ? The two hoses that connect to the existing tank are both the same diameter. Is it OK to put a reducer on one hose end ?

Cheers.

Yep just put a reducer on it.
If I’m home early tonight I will check my motor & post a photo if needed.

@hef19898 after some help…is your motor a left hand drive?
Would you have any photos of the locations of your power steering reservoir(don’t worry if it’s the old metal type just need location)
Thanks for helping us out

Do not forget, one pipe from the tank is for flow, the other for return, they are not the same.

Thanks, this was my final question. I have two hoses going to the resevoir, does it matter which tank connection goes to which hose ? I didn't know if there was some kind of one way valve on the tank. It appears to simply be a tank, you can blow and suck on each connection. I can't get my head around why the two connections are a different diameter ?

Thanks

Look inside the tank (ideally when empty). One of the plastic pipes will be higher than the other. The feed to the pump is normally lower in the tank, and the return from the steering box should be higher up. That way the tank can always feed the system, even if the fluid is a bit low.

RAVE for Classic doesn't specify which pipes are which, but the fittings on the steering box & pump are probably different sizes as well ?
