I had that, something about different potential between two earths, take the live n neg directly from the battery and try again ;)

OK, a few things here to try.

First off, take the aerial itself off and start measuring the cabling. Check outside of the connector to inner - should be infinite ohms. Check end-to-end on the inner conductor - should read very low ohms (at worst 1 or 2 ).

Has this antenna ever been used on a radio? Is it for the right band? Reason i ask is I've seen screwed-up packaging before that had the wrong antenna... :)

I suspect the cabling itself has a problem - internal short or something - and that is where I'dbe loooking.

Did you get it from Rocket Radio in Letchworth? They're generally quite helpful in there, even if you pop in with a query...

See if you can run a separate Earth from the mount to a six but of steel somewhere on the chassis/body.

Mine was like that but another earth got my swr down to less than 1

all sorted now :) was a small thred of wire linking both poles at the antenna mount end. SWR 1 to 1.5 now :)

So you had a short:p

Nice to see some CB guys here though I was never into CB. I am a licensed Amateur Radio Operator and will be installing an VHF rig for the local and neighbouring islands repeater and a multiband HF rig too.

I think I can get into the 11meter band and catch you guys from here :D

Is CB still popular there?
