great for laning, I use mine on voluntary events and rover rescue call outs too-more owners have them over an armature radio licence it seems still

i might get one free chat.
better than payin a fortune for mobile they are cheap in maplins.
landys already got the whip bolted to it.

Not sure where to put the whip though, used to have one in the middle of the front of the roof but it spent most of the time pinging off the roof...

I had one for convoy driving abroad. I had the aerial mounted on the front wing where it worked very well and could get a good SWR (< 1.1:1) ....Trouble is the wiring suffered from being sprayed with salty water each winter and no matter what I covered it with hasn't out lasted a winter yet. I'm going to try on the back, drivers side this time (soft top) and see how it gets on with the hood sticks. I suspect they'll make the aerial a bit directional but still ok for what I need it for. I've got a new aerial and mount and its with my other pile of round tuits gathering on top of a broken motor cluttering up my garage

got one £54 maplins fitted it got a #### tard on ch 18 for a while then #### all came the reply.
need to tune into the 80s.
think i may have blown 50 squid dont you.

I've just got a cb going to fit it tomorrow (hopefully) then wait for my whip and mount for my light bar. probably won't use it much unless green laning and p+p sites

Where are you all mounting them?

I already have a hole in the centre of the front of the roof so that's where the aerial will go. Though I may put the stereo aerial there and the cb aerial at the back, on the drivers side as I think it will look better...

As for the radios themselves I'm torn between the dash board and building a roof pod/shelf to span the front of the roof - not sure if I'll keep hitting my head off it though :D

I'm thinking either on the trans tunnel or building a slot in place of the cubby hole on my disco1 I just don't want to be having screw holes everywhere if I find I don't like it somewhere as my disco is fairly standard inside and out so I want to keep it so if need be I can drop back to standard with no major cost to source trims etc
