Hello,
Loving my new Freelander 2005 TD4 (facelift)
Have changed out the radio for a single din radio, installed a io play 2 handsfree, full time rear view camera (camera in in back window, need to move to outside the car), and fitted my dash cam (also in back window, will stay in back window), and got some cross bars ready for the roof for bike racks.

Next thing is CB radio.
Seen some with radios installed in the "glove box" under the steering wheel and the mic mounted on the side of gauges.
I think this looks good but not best for access to change setting ect.
I have the storage box filling the other "free" din of the radio section, this is not much use tbh.
Thinking of getting a cb radio single din adapter and fitting it there. Not sure what to do, however like the "more stealthy" look of in the glove box and the "more rugged" look of been on the console.
Any suggestions?

Now the big questions:
The CB antenna will be mounted on the side roof rails, what is the best way to route the cable to here so that it is hidden as much a possible, worried about a leaking door if go through top of door. I am not drilling ANY holes for ANY cables.

Second:
What is the best place for the rear camera and cable routing?
Thinking of putting it under the top (spare wheel) break light, ideas?
Could hide cable in the plastic of the break light but then need to find a way to get cable in to the car and as said do not want to drill car and want cable hidden, any ideas?

BTW the car has a tow ball and wiring (not sure if it makes a difference so said it anyway).

Also:
Car has running boards fitted,
i think it reduces the clearance slightly, but it does look good, on other hand think would look good with them removed, ideas?

PS. I know a lot of personal prefs but ideas still appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

I have a midland alan 48+ multi mounted under passenger glove box but this has channel change on mic . Aerial mounted on spare wheel with a bracket from a member ,performs well mic mounts on side of centre console when not in use
Regards Trev .

you can now get CB radio that has a detachable head unit I have a ham radio this way the body stays in the back door and the heads is attached to the windscreen by an adapted telephone holder if I can take some pictures later I will.

Hi , did you have to add add extra connectors to change the radio, I assume it was Harmon system, with steering wheel controls....rear camera also sounds good, any pics will be appreciated.

Idea #1 swap running boards / side step for rock slider bars - looks like you're planning on going places and they are tougher.

Rear camera: is this a reversing camera?
I originally fitted one to the underneath of the rear door handle. But the spare wheel restricted the view. Also the camera's height made the immediate area behind the vehicle blind i.e. you couldn't see what was right being the vehicle on the ground. The cabling was quite easy to get there though, you have to remove the sill trim and interior panel and the door card itself. The cable will fit through the flexi' rubber tube that's already there.

I mounted it instead in the centre of the 'O' in Land Rover on the bumper! works a treat. I used the same path as the wiring to my tow ball which came out below the RH lights.

The interior wiring I ran under the mats to the centre console. I had to get a 10m cable extension. From the console it runs across the underneath of the passenger glove box, up inside the LH A pillar, and across to the cabin light assembly, where the 3.5" screen is mounted [to the LH of the rear view mirror].

this is where I fitted my CB

Harmon system?

No steering wheel controls on my freelander.
I did have to get an adapter (ISO i think it is called, please correct me if wrong) that was about £14 from halfords (yes i prob could get cheaper online but wanted it faster) and also an areal adapter (female to male) (also halfords).
Also needed the fascia to convert to double din to single din.
On top of this there is other adapters to connect that allow the aftermarket hands free kit to function however these came with the hands free kit and are not needed for a standard radio swap or for a radio that has hands free built in (correct me if wrong).
No doubt that if the car had steering wheel controls then further adapters would be needed.

Will sure be adding pics.

BTW: Dash cam is just a 12v plug, rear view cam is norm connected on reverse light but i wanted it as a full time cam system so added some cable and a 12v plug to it. Both of these are plugged in to a 3 way split 12v adapter under the passenger seat. In some freelanders there is a 12v socket and ash trey between the front seats for back passengers to use, if i had this then i would have used that but mine does not, however this is prewired and just not connected so i removed the storage box and got a cheap 12v outlet and installed inside console to power the splitter.

I will post pics of it all.

Thanks.
