I really can't understand why some people don't get it why this is a matter that should have been dealt with in house and as a private matter and not to involve the police. Anyone that knows anything about driving on byways would know that we get constant complaints by ramblers to the police even when we are driving completely legal Byways, i've had ramblers chasing down byways with video camera's before and that the authorities just look for any reason they can to close lanes, so they don't have to spend money maintaining them. So for someone that is meant to be into 4x4's to report this to the police and add more amo for the anti 4x4 groups to get lanes closed is pure madness.

There's a lane near me that i feel is being abused and i have no other course of action but to report it to the police in the hope that the local authority will place a permanent TRO on it, i have witnessed people speeding and driving in a reckless manor on it for many years, constantly driving round and round on it and causing damage to the surface, to the point where ramblers will not use it, even thou i have tried to encourage them that it is safe to use. If a TRO was place on this lane a fortune could be save in maintainance as it a fairly long lane and goes round most of London.

Guess we'll never know if the guy would have responded to a quite word because foss didn't have the balls to deal with it himself instead he ran and to law with lack of factual information on the vehicle giving the police even more reason to stop greenlaners in that area personally if it was me and I knew where he lived I'd be there like a shot if I was that concerned not spouting off on here about it and then going off on one when everyone doesn't agree with his opinion.

Unfortunately the world we live in today means that on the one hand yes it could have been sorted with a simple face to face chat. On the other hand we could be reading about another stabbing incident instead of slagging the OP off for being a grass.
Why not just except that some would have handled it with the chat method. Others would play it safe and let the police deal with it.
As for anti-4x4 ammo. Yes bad press for 4x4 drivers aint what we want, but everytime a responsible 4x4 driver stops an irresponsible one from doing something like this it can only HELP us in the long run.

Hi Ratty, in a perfect world I would agree, but it isn't. The anti 4x4 groups wouldn't care that you were a 4x4 owner reporting someone for taking the ****, all they would be hearing is another 4x4 not keeping to the rules, let's close some more byways. So reporting things and thinking your going to get some kind of thanks for being a responsible 4x4 owner, well I wouldn't hold your breath.
