well your wrong!! catalytic converters are a legal requirement on petrol cars from 1997 onwards. also my old 300tdi defender failed its m.o.t at my work last week due to the emisions been to high and emitting to much smoke for a turbo charged engine. if you remove the cat from a petrol car you will have to replace it for when its due an m.o.t
But a petrol engin won't pass a its emmission test without the cat if its supposed to have one, the only cars i know of thet didnt have cats fitted were susuki's cos they went the lean burn instead.

Point? ive watched loads of cars fail there m.o.t as a result in people removing there cats. if it passes then fair enuf but unless its on lpg i doubt it will
Which ford is lean burn?I have no doubt on that also, but as for "legal requirement" ..... So don't condem so quickly next time
Fords and Honda also supply vehicles with lean burn engines but still fit a 'cat' .
Yep thats the only one i know of and it was pre 93 so didn't need a cat if memory serves me correctly.phew only one I can think of is the cvh
