I was speaking to a chap the other day and he mentioned that in addition to a LR Fuel Tank, I could also get cassette tanks that sit in the wings. Has anyone heard of these as I can't find them via a googley and wondered if I had the name right

Long range fuel tanks have been around for years. not much point having one in the UK but needed in North Africa or in Australia's outback.
If you never seen one look at this link and as stated 'Google' " long rang fuel tanks" to be specific add your model of Land Rover. This link if for a D2 but I would think most long range over land trips would be by 110s/ Defender, not that that's any interest to me. :D http://thelongranger.com.au/discovery04longrangefueltank.html

I've already done that but nothing, only standard LRR fuel tanks which I'm getting. Aparantly this chap said they sit in the wings????
the standard ones you are looking at might actually be a larger replacement

not sure what disco you have but like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVE...RANGE-FUEL-TANK-BY-FRONT-RUNNER-/171568764596

you'll lose your spare wheel.

you can also buy custom or plastic tanks and mount em wherever you can. you have various ways of filling the main tank from them.

Hey trax, yeah mine is a D2.

I think I've found it, http://www.safari-equip.co.uk/shop/...tank-rear-arch-tank-sill-tank-water-tank.html

Half way down it says there is a set including a main replacement and arch tank giving me 160lts which is nice :)

to throw a spanner in the works.. dual jerry can holder would do the same, be cheaper if you can fit it somewhere :>

No one likes a spanner in the works Trax :) ......but yes I thought of that however one of the reasons why I decided to have something more 'permanent' is when I do my trip to morocco I can fill up on fuel before I travel back across Spain. From my understanding you can't take jerry can's of fuel on the ferry. However for the £600 estimated cost for the tank my £40 saving on that one part of the trip may be negligible. Also the extra weight will reduce that down too :(
