Hi troops.
Thinking about getting a Caranex for the back of the Discovery. Does anyone have any experience of using one during a normal Scottish summer - ie pouring with rain. Has anyone used one with a roofrack, if so, how water tight is the 'seal' at the top. I get the impression that rain would run back along the gutters and into the Caranex? Could the gutters be 'damed' with plasticine or the likes to shed the water down the vehicle sides? Any pictures in use with a roofrack on the vehicle would be great, just to get an idea how dry it will remain.
I dont fancy a rooftop tent as more than likely I will have one of the dogs with me, and they are a bit ruff when it comes to climbing
Cheers, Roddy

Think Pikeys got a Caranex, or very similar, he'd probably know.

i have used a caranex for the last 6 years on Disco / Defender and now P38, never suffered from water coming in from roof gutter - but do not make the mistake that Pikey and i made one Easter, parked Disco around wrong way in a snow storm and in the morning Pikey could not be seen for snow covering him - always have to have the tent rear wall facing into the wind so the side flaps to not billow out.

Got my Caranex, but as with ratty, still to try it out. Going away with the caravan for a couple of weeks, might take Caranex along just to try it out and get some pitching practice.

Best off luck with the Caranex. Used mine a good few years ago on a couple of trips to Europe with '78 Range Rover. Not a good experience - found it difficult to fasten to the car and could not get the roof to stay flat so water filled and seeped in etc etc. Bit of a nightmare really. Since then used cheap £40 ground tent, brilliant. Having said all that I should put the C. up for sale. Anyone interested.
