My freelander packed in last Sunday and as told me it was fuel pump so ok I go buy a 2nd hand one (it works) after fitting tried to start the car turns over perfect but no start.

Bought a can of easy start spray it in air inlet starts no problem! Stripped the inlet manifold checked injectors they are working fine so I know that fuel is getting to rail and spraying from injectors but still no start!!!

Please help as I need the car back on the road ASAP!!!!

have you checked the inertia cut out switch they have been known to trip out for no reason

Sorry it is a 52 plate the pump is under the rear seats I never blead the system as I was told it will sort its self out. Yeah checked the switch it is ok. I have since had the fuel line off where it enters the rail and drained a lot of petrol out the line.

Does the fuel pressure switch have a diophram in it? If that is it then yeah I had a look it is not moving at all when I blow/ suck on it as I have been told that it should. I am really at a loss as what to do next.

from the sounds of it, it's a td4.

would be looking at a leaking injector, which would not be appparent from a visual inspection. ecu looks for pressure at all 4 injectors to be equal before firing. If one is leaking back to the return fuel rail, it will be down on pressure and therefore stop the engine from firing.

However, once it is running, it will happily continue to do so which is why easy start works.

Have a look for "leak off test", you can carry it out yourself with a length of fuel pipe and some empty water bottles.

Obviously, this assumes you have some knowledge and do actually have a td4.

if not, ignore everything as it would then become quite dangerous.

good luck

I have gone the the local scrap yard and picked up a whole new fuel intake fitted it and still no joy I am trying everything I can think of with out spending loads of money. It is just so frustrating that it starts perfect with easy start but not with fuel! Could there be a pressure problem from the pump? I know I said fuel spraying from injectors but I don't know if the pressure would be correct. I have read that there was a problem with the o-ring on the filter causing low pressure and I have bought a new filter but if I don't need it I would rather put it back instead of try since I had to buy it from land rover and not cheap from there!!!

if you keep buying parts and fitting them and does not work, would make sense to take it to a garage and have them look at it. Could be a quid part to fix

I have thought about that but since I am spending all my spare money on bus fares to get back and fore to work I can't afford to pay the astronomical prices land rover charge. I have a land rover having a look at it in Monday I hope. So will maybe have a idea about what is going on then! Knowing my luck it will be something simple!!

You need to be more precise with your info! So far I've got:-
52 plate
Petrol
Starts on easy start
New fuel pump which works
Injectors work

Need to know:-
1.8 or v6
Distributor or wasted spark (if 1.8)
Once started on easy start does it continue to run?
How did you test the injectors? Have you seen them spray fuel?
Have you got a spark and is it strong enough?

Ps easy start is meant for diesels, you can do damage to a petrol engine with it ;)

It is a 1.8, no distributer cap, I tool off the injector rail and my mate turned the ignition on and I watched the injectors spray. I was told by the guy in auto parts to try using easy start that's the only reason I used it. I have a spark but not sure how strong a spark as I have lost my extention bar to remove the plugs.

How did you test for a spark? And when you started it with EasySart did it carry on running or stop after a few seconds?
If you have fuel at the injectors then it has to be ether a weak spark or a timing error!

Not the best way to check a spark plug but put a screwdriver in lead and left it on block and turned the key sparked away jumped a good distance bright blue. Am just going by what my mate said as he was at engine bay I was in car. After starting with easy spray it sounds like it burns off the spray then dies. So now thinking a timing issue.

The only safe way to test the spark on a Dis system is with a correctly earthed spark plug. But it sounds like you have a spark. If the engine stopped after a few seconds it was the Easy start running it.
Have you disconnected the fuel line from the fuel rail to see if you have fuel pressure?
What happened to the engine before it wouldn't start? I'e did it stall or cut out? The more info the better ;)

I was driving along the road when I lost power. Got the car started then when tries to accelerate car died. I took the fuel line off the fuel rail and the petrol is pumping out not sure of the pressure as I don't have anything to check with or how to check with out a gauge.
