Canvas roof to Hard Top

New member here and fairly new Landy owner.

I have a 1985 Defender 90 that needs a fair bit of work.

High priority at the moment is converting it from a canvas roof to hard top.

I've searched on ebay, gumtree and a few of the high ranked parts sellers on Google and found results hard to come by (some but limited).

Does anyone have any recommendations on best places to find the roof, side panels and rear door?

I'll pop it in the calendar - might be a bit long to wait for the roof but sure to find other useful parts

I'm thinking of going the other way. From a hard top to a soft top. Interested to know why your going for a hard top? I want ta soft top so I can enjoy the hot sunny days here in the south of France by rolling back the soft top during the summer. I used to have a soft top TR6 which I found very warm in the winter. My 110 Defender with a hard top is freezing in the winter, I can't see it being much colder with a soft top.
 
Funny ... Wasn't there someone on here the other day wanting to do the hard to ragtop conversion?
So have a quick trawl through and contact him directly.

I live in the French countryside where I am happy to report security is not an issue here. So might be the route for me to go. People still leave there front doors unlocked overnight, keys left in the ignition that sort of thing. Postman signs for deliveries if your not in etc etc.

true, I found the same for the short amount of time I had the hard top fitted, ref the security, for stuff left in the car on a short stop then I agree the softtop is a bit of a hinderence, but I would never leave anything in a Fender that was not locked away hoping the std hard top would secure the stuff left in it.

For vehicle antitheft then the hard top I think makes very little difference.

Security is a factor, but not super high priority - the doors don't have locks on them anyway and I have plenty of other anti-theft details in place.
Main reasons include travelling, ability to fit a roof rack, rain-proofing (south of England not the same climate as south of France!).
Good to get other people's thoughts on it though.
Would definitely consider chatting with someone who wants to go the other way and see if there's trading potential.
 
Nope it doesn't fit........you can fit a truck cab roof including the series back panel & split doors if you wanted
& seal the windscreen with sikaflex ;)
