Hi, Im new but should have joined years ago! I recently sold my old 1997 Discovery and someone received a bargain there . I replaced it with an Audi TT . Call it a mid life crisis but its only lasted a month so TT is going on the market next week and Im on the hunt for a Freelander hence me pouring through the threads on this site. I miss my old Discovery, the TT is great for short spurts on the road but not nearly as much fun to drive! Hoping to find myself a 51 to 53 plate but still undecided on which model.... probably the 3dr ES or Kalahari. Should I be aware of any differences between the 3 and 5 dr versions - apart from the obvious :D

From disco to tt to gaylander? it sure is a crisis

Yes, but Im on top of it now! I had the disco for a few years and used it for towing etc. The TT is/was a minor blip. I dont need to tow just now but want something a bit rugid for the country life but dont need the 7 seats or size of a disco. I need to read more forums, Im guessing there is a reason behind you calling my new desire a 'gaylander'

:welcome2: to LZ:)

They get called Gaylanders because they are considered to be hairdressers cars and because they don't have the same rugged looking offroad characteristics as the defender and discovery.

Make sure that you get a diesel and not a petrol unless you enjoy big repair bills when the headgasket fails. The number of doors isn't really a problem.

You aren't going to get a whole lot of helpful or sensible advice from the knuckle-draggers here on that one! It's a macho thing.

Just avoid anything that's petrol (K Series) engined and make sure that the 4WD is intact. It's not uncommon for them to have the prop shaft removed to hide more serious differential problems.

You are kidding me?! I was trying to move away from the 'hairdresser' image . I suppose I can see why....when you compare the 'freelander' to the Disco or original Landy but.........really??? I didnt think they looked that 'limp' :D. Its not deterred me though, I still want one! Thanks for the welcome :) by the way & thanks for the advice - It will most definitely be a diesel, couldnt afford the fuel or the repair bills on a petrol.
