Can lights be wired this way?

Had to go see before it got too dark

I unplugged the headlights and tested with ignition on and off, it was too late to leave it ticking over on the drive, but I found

Ignition off. Ignition on
Battery. 12.35. 12.09
N/s dip. 12.29. -
O/s dip. 12.28. -
N/s main. 12.06. 12.03
O/s main. 12.05. 12.02

I forgot to test dip with ignition on and the driving lights still came on with main beam that's why there's more volt drop there

Don't know how that compares to expected figures

Your measurements don't mean much in the story of how the light circuits are working because you unplugged the bulbs. You can't measure the voltage drop across the circuit without having a load in place.
Also, how are your spotlights wired? Via a relay with the power taken directly from the battery, through a fuse of course?

Just looked at my post and it's come up on here nothing like I wrote it out, sorry about that

Ok thanks, Il have to have another bash and take the lights out so I can leave the plugs on and still get in with the multimeter

The lights were factory fit/optional extra. I haven't paid too much attention but it's all proper wiring and plugs behind the grill with relays and fuses mounted on the inner wing behind the battery

Ah rite get Ya thanks, I'm sure they were put on by land rover either factory or dealer, and I think a lot of the safaris had them from New

Il retest my lights later while their still connected this time

Yeah thanks for that Kev

It is on its way out, it struggled thru winter but is ok at the mo, I know it needs changing and it's a numax that had good reviews but I got it off eBay from Scotland and I'm not looking forward to paying the postage to send it back just for them to say it's ok just so they don't have to replace it even tho I've tested it and it came up poor and a low percentage

I also don't know wot to replace it with really

Cheers
