Can I replace a 16p with a 15p?

Hey folks I've gotten hold of a 04 plate TD5 with a 16p engine that is in pieces and more than likely fubar. I'm looking at saving myself a rebuild headache and just replacing the motor but I can only find 10p & 15p engines for sale. Will I be okay with dropping either of these in?

I'd be very wary of any engine you bought for under £1.

Sorry mate, couldn't resist.
I expect if you could get hold of engine, gearbox, engine ECU and gearbox BCU, ALL off the same vehicle, you would find it less hassle to bung it all in, but as other peeps have said there are others on here who will have more accurate knowledge.

The 16p is hens teeth unfortunately and a new 16p head from turner is about £1,300 with vat.
The idiot before me has left the head off causing surface rust on the piston surfaces, so it'll be more then likely more money for a rebuild then it would be dropping an engine in.

Depends how deep the "surface" rust is. But if there is rust on the bores too.....

I still think you are right to try and get 15p or 10p stuff, as I said up thread, get all the electronics too.
 
15P is the same with any other 15+P , AFAIK they go from 15 up to 22P all are the same but different than 10P which is not good for you
