Can i move my ignition coil into my cab?

Hi everyone, I probably have asked this already but here goes.
I have a 1998 discovery 1 es v8 serpentine belt automatic petrol.
I've spent a lot of time making it off road viable and as every one knows v8s don't like the deep water as much as diesels do.
I've made a distributor shield as shown by discool (top man ) but my ignition coil is right behind my nearside headlight so up front and if water goes over my bonnet! Yep I'm screwed as nearly happened last Sunday at muddy bottom. Fortunately I got wedged and had to be pulled out backwards.
So I'm thinking /wanting to move my ignition coil into my cab or mount on firewall at rear of engine. My thoughts being it should not get swamped in water as long as I keep a steady pace and bow wave moving away all time.
So is it possible to do what I would like to do ?

It would not need to be moved far just up and back away from where it is...no need to go as far as in the cab...

He'd start going through coils like a consumable item. They do get hot, and the body is a heatsink of sorts. Seal them up in an enclosure and they'll cook. Try touching it after a run, even on a cold day and you'll know what I mean. The coil ordinarily shouldn't be bothered by water as long as the lead is watertight, it's the distributor that's usually the weak link.

Involves a bit more by way of resources, but you could go the route of installing remote coil packs from the American LS family of V8s, run off the distributor signal through an MSD box.
The individual coils does give the old rover V8 quite the grunt and are completely waterproof.
 
Thanks guys , I've had a 5ft king lead made up and it's low resistance, I've connected it up with out moving anything and seems OK, my lpg system would let me know big time if it wasn't so it's possible to move further up in bay if not the cab?
I'm intrigued as to what ifoochies has suggested so will contact regarding what is needed.
I know I should have got a diesel but the v8 grunt and it's sound had me from the start.

You made the right choice! V8s can be waterproofed, as above. The ultimate I've seen is a mega squirt conversion, like @ifloochies suggestion but with a crank sensor and its own tuneable, mappable magic box.


 
Hi capo, wow that would be amazing on mine, bloody expensive but worth the fun, I'd better start saving money on this then. What do you think a mega squirt system for a 1998 v8 petrol lpg conversion on a discovery 1 would cost ? A grand?
