Can I expect more than 300 miles from a Td5?

So this 2000MY 110 TD5 CSW i've acquired always returns 300 miles on a full tank. okay maybe 310 on a good day.

mainly laning in low range, motorway cruising max 70mph but mostly 55 to 60mph. or pottering about town.

Nothing really been tinkered with except shortened the turbo wastegate actuator which has it's maximum at now 1.7 bar.

No major added weight but has 35" fedima tyres.

Is this poor, average or blummin' fabulous?

Get an average of 400 from mine, admittedly my tires are not as big and I don't have the EGR valve anymore. But no other engine mods.

Generally get 400 - 420 on my 2002 110. Managed 480 on a run down to the Alps last summer as a steady 60mph all the way!!

Stage 3 remap and roverdrive helps a lot. On BFG Muds 265/75/16.

I tow a 3.5 t trailer a lot for work and got it chipped to towing/eco and made a big improvement on towing fully loaded

Are you tires throwing the speedo out?

Are you tires throwing the speedo out?

I bet it is! it would make the speedo read slow, show less miles than he is actually doing and make fuel consumption look poor.
110 have a 75 L tank, Right?
So if he is getting 300 off a tank before the light comes on? im guessing
there would be 10 litres left in the tank?
Thats gives 21 MPGish, somethings not right!

Something else you should consider and this comes from a current issue I am having.

I replaced my tank, took the sender out the old tank and refitted it to the new tank. I seem not to get very far when the warning light comes on telling me I am low on fuel. So the next time my light comes on my plan is to drain the tank into a bucket and measure how much fuel I have in the tank for a first low fuel warning illumination.

I have a feeling I am not getting far because I buy fuel about 2 gallons too early.

I guess if I KNEW I had 50/75miles to go when the light came on I wouldn't mind but on the old set up red light meant I had about 25miles - after that I had to be careful I didn't go up any long hills!

It could be your not actually using all the fuel available.

mines the same buddy.

I can get from b'ham to Penzance on a full tank. its 275 miles from my house to morrisons forecourt.

285 tyres, a roof rack and a remap.

I find its not the long distance so much but the little bursts at 70 that make the gauge go down.

Well i've checked the speed with Memory Map on an Ipad and the speeds between GPS and Speedo are roughly the same.

Really not much in it.

I am starting to suspect the EGR could be a candidate so may take it off and clean it up or replace it with a blanking kit.

My 2003 TD5 110 SW with standard everything returns about 400 miles per tank. Happy with that. :)

So the next time my light comes on my plan is to drain the tank into a bucket and measure how much fuel I have in the tank for a first low fuel warning illumination.

Instead of faffing around draining it why not fill it instead, if you know the tank size subtract what you have just put in and that will tell you what was left

I have a 1998 300 TDI 110CSW and that always gets to 400 miles from full to the start of the red, or 365 miles running at a constant 70mph on motorway as it was this weekend. Works out around 28-30 mpg so pleased with that.
