Just had a quote from adrian flux for insurance for the old girl but they say i need to have a cat 2 immobiliser fitted, can anyone recommend a good one????

I've got a toad i606 which is CAT1... alarm and immobiliser. Cost around £300 fitted with certificate

Nope - disclok is cat3 (mechanical device) but it won't get you a discount as is cannot be set to 'passively arm' like an electronic device will.
I'd agree - a CAT1 would exceed insurer requirements and the ai606 is a good bit of kit.
CAT2..... does anyone still make them? Since OEMs started making cars more secure I was under the impression that the likes of Clifford & Toad no longer made passive transponder type immobilisers...

all do different standards of alarms.You should check whether your insurer wants it fitting by a professional installer. Some insist upon it, which is not good if you have spent all weekend installing one yourself to find the insurance company wants an installation certifcate.
This gives you the current list of after market Cat2 immobilisers which are Thatcham rated (which again your insurance may insist upon). http://www.thatcham.org/security/pdfs/categories/PassengerCarCAT2.pdf
To be honest, if you're going to the expense of having to pay someone to fit a Cat2 immobiliser, for the difference in price, I would be tempted to go for a Cat1 alarm/immobilser.

Wow that list of new apporved systems is small.
Re certification - well if you happen to have a car where the system was 'already installed' you can always have your system inspected & certified by a local VSIB installer for ~£20. Keeps insurers happy.
Shame - as no doubt without a 'Thatcham approved installer' having signed it off, an insurer would try to wriggle out of paying a theft claim.
What also surprises me is that the Disklok is no longer certified as a Thatcham approved product..... but the 'Stoplock Pro' is?!
I get the feeling its all about paying a licensing fee to Thatcham..... regardless of their approval lists I know what my first line of defence would be.

Toad or Sterling are probably the most reliable, get it pro fitted, should cost £100 give or take. Wouldn`t touch Clifford with a bargepole!! I`ve been fitting Vehicle Security for 18 years and trust me they are one of the most unreliable systems out there.
I looked around in the past for cat 2 imobilizers, To buy one and fit it myself was about £60 to get one supplied and fitted with a certificate was £100.
So i went for a Viper cat 1 alarm and imobilizer supplied and fitted with the certification.
Worst of all my insurance company (admiral) dont care if its cat 1 they just give a discount for one fitted
