Hello fellow mudders,

My names Jim and I am a mudaholic. I've just purchased a Defender 90 and need a little help. She has very straight panels and runs smoothly but as with all landies her age (89 F), she is suffering from rust. Most of it is easily dealt with, bodywork cappings, door bottoms etc, you know the kind of thing. My main concern is the rust that is on the section of bodywork between the drivers door and the front side panel. Someone said that this can't be repaired and will affect the bodywork of the vehicle although it looks on first inspection as if this has not taken hold. Are they talking jibberish and it can be repaired? If so, is it a straight forward panel switch or is it a welding job? I'm stuck so if you know about these things please let me know. Many Thanks

Jim

Do you mean the Bulkhead? The vertical strip of metal that the door hinges are on? Do you have any pictures?
Everything on a Landrover is repairable, it's just how much and how difficult. The bulkhead like the Chassis is made of the ****tiest steel available at the time and as such is the part the normally causes the most grief.

Cheers Fella,

I completely forgot it was the bulkhead. You are a star, I can now get the parts I need. When god was handing out brains, I thought he said trains and I asked for a slow steamer! Are the caps that run between the top and bottom panels on the back easy to replace? Mine are rusted and I need to get new ones and having never replaced them before it might be a challenge.

Cheers

Jim

"Are the caps that run between the top and bottom panels on the back easy to replace?"

Top of what?
Bottom of what?
Back of what?

I'm a bit confused as to what exactly you mean, can you describe that again?

Not half as confused as I am mate! I have no idea what they're called as Im new to this but they are the long strips of metal that run between the bottom and top wings from the door to the back and finsh as corner pieces. Any ideas?

Jim :(

I think you must mean the Body capping strips that sit between the rear panel and the roof? They are available from John Craddock about £30.

do you mean these?

Thems the badgers! Do they just bolt into place or do they need spot welding? I havn't got my landy on hand to look or take the roof off. Any help you can give is most appreicated.

Jim :)
