Hi.

I have just put a deposit down on a 2001 Td5 Discovery after several weeks of looking. Can't wait to pick the car up next week.

I'm a self confessed motoring enthusiast and am a member of a few other car forums for my other car and find the level of information and support fantastic. I have been recommended this forum by a friend who also has a Discovery.

So anyway. I wonder if anyone can help. I have already started compiling a list of jobs, improvements, upgrades etc I want to do to the car as soon as I can and this has raised a couple of questions.

1- I would like to fit an ipod connector to the OEM stereo to replace the CD changer, however, I cannot find the model of the fitted stereo, to insure I buy the correct kit. I wonder if anyone can help from the attached picture?

2- One of the headlight washers has broken. I've already ordered a replacement. Are they easy to replace. It looks like one screw and then I assume the pipe will connecting to the new washer and re-fit.

Many thanks,

From one excited schoolboy at Christmas - only 2 more sleeps -CH0PPA

You could just buy one of those, nice and cheap and easy way of connecting ipod? Just a thought.

It is unlikely with the age of the unit that there would be a dedicated option. Connects2 offer some of these but one for your specific car also seems to be based around an FM modulator, like the Belkin unit but internally mounted

Thanks for the replies.

I have purchased and used the FM transmitters before, but find their quality somewhat lacking. Similarly the cassette option, I used to have one of those when Mini discs were all the rage.

I'm wanting something like this: Connects2 CTALRIPOD005 iPod Adaptor Landrover Discovery on eBay (end time 05-Feb-10 13:09:10 GMT)

It's just whether it will work with my particular head unit....... hmmmm

From the eBay site in that link

"The CTALRIPOD005 kit comprises of an interface to allow direct connection of an iPod to Landrover vehicles with Alpine XQD101043PUY Symphony Highline head units fitted in the following models:

Discovery : upto 2003"

You will need to take the head unit out to get the model number and from recollection it's a bastard without the tool. I nipped along to the main stealer and they did it for me, was ****ing shocked when they dint charge me.

From memory, my head unit is the same as yours and I don't think it was an Alpine.

I used the FM transmitter for over a year and couldn't complain with the quality, only niggle I had was trying to re-tune it on the move as driving from here to Basingstoke the frequency it was set at would end up being some local station on the way. What was fine here wasn't in Glasgow and what was fine in Glasgow wasn't 30 miles down the road. :(

Excellent idea. I will bumble into the local stealer and ask to borrow the the tools to pop it out and have a look. Just got to get it now. Hurry up Tuesday!

I'm beginning to think it might be easier to just buy an after market head unit. It just looks better with the OEM system I think.

Fortunately I'm not "The CHOPPER Read" - I still have both ears - ;)

I wanted to buy an aftermarket head unit but it wasn't possible if I wanted to keep all the functions like steering wheel mounted controls so I just stuck with the OEM.

Nah, there used to be a geezer on 'ere called chuppa or was it ploppa, or coppa, or was it choppa? I can't remember. Anyway he spat his dummy oot and fecked off. :(

I have the same head unit and my manual says it is an Alpine, I am looking for the same type of lead so please post your findings, also welcome to Devon when you come where abouts you moving to?

Thanks all for your replies.

I'm a new CH0PPA. I did notice when I registered the name that there is already one registered.

I have some radio keys which look very similar to the ones needed for this radio so fingers crossed tomorrow.

Thanks Roadcaptain. I will let you know how I get on for sure. I pick my new toy up tomorrow morning (can't wait), so should have the stereo out and inspected it all by the end of the day, which hopefully means I will have established whether the ipod connector will fit. I will keep you posted.

I move to North Devon 2 weeks today to start my new job. Just trying to sell the house so we can buy another down there. Not sure where though. I see you're in Cullompton, maybe see you around :)
