cam belt,

hi all, i am in need of my cam belt changing on my freelander 2.5 petrol automatic.....
i have called around but the price's im being told seem very hi....
duz anyone know anywhere around nottinghamshire thats not going to rip me off and also do a good job.....
i live in nottingham but am willing to teavel a few miles.....

First of all know EXACTLY what you want, I am going to take it from your name that you are a girl (hopefully) and you are for this reason going to be treated like you don't know squat about cars. So you go in and you have a little "story" which you use to let the mechanic know that you what your talking about.

Go around the places, tell them you would like the timing belt changed and while there at it sling a new serpintine belt on since its off anyway.

You may get some better prices - try the little industrail areas, down back streets and look for a wee independant. You will find some gentleman mechanic who will give you a fair price - I would say about £100 for parts tops (depends where you buy them) and then 4-5 hours at £30 an hour would be fair.

Sorry,no-one in their right mind is going to do a belt job on a Kv6 for £250.

I changed the timing belts on my V6, it's not easy and takes most of a day.
A garage will probably charge about £400
