hi guys need new calipers as mine are past sell by date , but been reading and would like your thoughts can you fit defender calipers as they have a larger diameter piston so braking would should be better part no seb500450 l/h and seb500440 r/h , as any one done this , thanks .

I have done this too - 130's discs and calipers fitted - have a search as there are all the part numbers of everything you need on my thread ;)

No idea about a D2 but I know a D3 the upgrade is to use V8 caliper carriers and V8 disks. The V8 carriers hold the calipers further towards the outside of the wheel therefore better leverage and hence more friction

youd have to have a greater diameter disc for that to work, since all calipers and pads use the full diameter of disc

Yes that is correct James that is why I said V8 Disks as well, the potential problem is the space or lack of it between the edge of the caliper and the inside of the wheel, hence on a D3 the minimum wheel size is 18 inches. I have no idea about a D2, but now I have planted the thought perhaps someone with a bit of motivation can investigate further.
