Hi all
Ive got to the stage of sortimg the roof out on my 130 rebuild and the problem i have is the 2 insert/clip things that 2 large self tap screws go into at the top of the windscreen frame into the roof at each side to hold the roof at each side have stripped
One was missing and the other was lose when i stripped it down
Proberly caused by overloading the roofrack
Anyone got an easy fix as they are hiden away where you carnt get to the back of them

They're either J nuts or captive nuts and not too difficult to replace. If you mean where I think you mean though then I wouldn't worry too much about them, I've seen plenty Defenders without screws in there

Like a pressed clip type similer to what wings fix on with
Problem is as mo screws in the ally roof frame/stiffner is comming away from the steel gutter causeing it to start to crack . Kind of needs the screws not so much to hold roof to screen (i agree not so vital for that) but hold the roof togeather
I thought i took a pic but havent ill post one tomarow

Looking at it again looks like drill the 5pop riviots out and remove the angle that the door seel goes on which has the offending bit on it
Replace the striped clip with a rivnut or weld a nut to it then pop riviot back in

Easiest way would be to try and drill out the old nut and just stick a rivut in its place
i agree, just dosent look like one will fit in the hole behind as has a spring clip type thing there that the self tapper screwed into and just don't want it to spin if i try and drill it and start another problem when it tears the paper thin roof
we all know what landrovers are like , fix one problem find 2 more lol
ill take some more pics when i do the job at the weekend

Final had a bit of time today to have a look at the stripped fixing
After a good look taking the trim off was a non starter as problem part was actually on the main gutter
Seems was a slotted hole with a clip on it (carnt rember name of clip) landrover seems to love them
So being a slot no chance of riv nut
Went with a 5mm thick taped plate slid behind screwed a m 6 csk into the taped hole to align it then drilled and taped a m4 csk at side to hold the taped plate in place
Bit long winded but couldent think of a beter way as just changing the clip wouldent hold the stifner to the roof where the spot welds had broke
Will all be ok once roof is back on

finished item

ah that's what they are called i did have a few but I'm not a lover of them i did spend 10 minuets with a new one and bits of wire bend rods etc trying to poke a new one in before i decided on the taped plate method, was more that the tapped plate held it all together better as well as a spot weld from roof to stiffer had also parted causing the roof to crack both sides from the outer corner inward 20 mm or so ,
will need my +2 glasses when i weld them cracks up
