Buying help please

I am looking at a 4.0SE 98R 107k with multi seq LPG which when I got there was showing signs of the head gasket gone (yellowish white gunk in cap). It had some top end work done last year and it could be it was not replaced properly. The guy is going to get it sorted, but will this have weakened the engine at all?

I am also looking at a 98s 2.5 DHSE with 130k on it

Both around 8k

Any thoughts, comments or help appreciated! Cannot wait to get back into a RR!

These engines are prone to over heating, and problems with the block. If it has been allowed to overheat then it may or may not have other problems with the block. Personally I'd walk away and find another vehicle unless you are absolutely 110% that the problem is totally fixed. There are plenty of good P38's around.

Thanks for this - I must admit I was a little worried about it having overheated. I think I will look at the DHSE and get it chipped. Have been told by my local specialist that the 2.5 block will be good for 200k and chipping at 130k is not a problem. Obviously I need to make sure that all is good with the history, but it has had a religeous 6k servicing so should be good.

Tiff,

The 2.5 diesel will easliy do 200k. My last one did 186k before I sold it, my current has done 197k and still going strong! I do service every 6000 miles though to keep it in top condition.

Both the V8 and diesel like to be well maintained. If they have not been serviced properly both can have problems.

Looks nice Tiff, if it had lightstone leather I would rip your arm off too! Had grey in my last one and really want lightstone.
